“Great View from The Top”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

Wide stairs to go up so not the usual narrow staircases to deal with. Definitely worth the climb which is not too bad.

“A 'Must-Do' in San Gimignano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

It seems daunting, challenging, even frightening but after the few medieval steps, the climb up to the top is quite easy - and the views are absolutely spectacular. Apart from the narrow step ladder at the very top, the staircase is wide and can be taken at a leisurely pace. An obvious point is making sure you make the climb on a clear day when there is the chance of a decent view.

“San Gimignano - walled city in midst of beautiful Tuscan hills”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

The "city" of San Gimignano is set in the lovely Tuscan countryside, so just getting there is a very pleasant ride. Outside the northern gate an elderly couple was roasting chestnuts for sale over a wood brazier, and offered us a chance to try them for the first time. Glad we know now we don't need to buy, but it was very sweet of them and appreciated.
The town is filled with tourist shops selling all manner of goods, including the delicious wine made locally, and beautiful hand-made pottery, along with a wide variety of ladies' leather handbags. The central piazza has restaurants with outdoor seating for a great place to relax, recoup, and people watch.
Perhaps due to its smaller size it has a different feel from Luca, Pisa or Sienna, other walled cities that are definitely each worth a visit.
