this church has many medieval frescoes and depicts in its walls. One of them touched us a lot. It's from Adam lying on the ground asleep while Eve was 'borning' from his ribs. Poetic and unforgettable !

The walls inside this plain looking building are covered with wonderful paintings of biblical scenes. Feel entry fee 3.50 is a little steep, especially as you then have to pay for the audio guide as well! But worth a look

Very old church of Etruscan origin and later Roman influence.
Do not miss the great frescoes made for people who does not know how to read.

We were amazed by the quiet beauty of this cathedral. We went in October so it was not too busy but we could imagine how crowded it might become in high season. The walls are covered in frescoes, both old & new testament and there is a little chapel to the side of St Fina, the patron saint of St Gimignano, whose house can be seen a short walk away in the town. A good example of how colourful and elaborately decorated catholic churches would have been at their apogee.

Don't let the outside of this cathedral fool you. The very plain exterior hides the gorgeous frescoes of the old and new testaments inside. When purchasing your ticket, buy one of the brochures that has pictures of all the frescoes, along with explanations as to their significance (no picture-taking is allowed). Definitely worth a visit.
