Owner description: Walk to the castle on this hilltop park to get a sweeping view of the town's many towers.
Reviewed May 18, 2013

This was probably our highlight on visiting the town on a wet and windy Thursday. Our visit wasn't helped by the weather, but having the beautiful medieval town totally over run with 'white van men' and market stalls obliterating the view of the piazzas and buildings, plus bus loads of tourists and school parties, I would fully recommend an early morning or late afternoon visit to the town when they've all cleared off! But the walk to the Rocca down the quiet back alleys was lovely with wonderful views from the top, plus blissful peace and quiet - beware of visiting the town on market day (Thursday).

I only had a limited time in San G. and took the advice of the contributor of 22 April and visited the rocca rather than climb one of the city towers.

Big mistake.

The climbable part of the castle was at the rear of the building and the view over the town was restricted by trees and walls and thus very disappointing.

Climb one of the main city towers instead e.g. the Bell Tower. I wish I had.

This place is located in the upper part of San Gimignano it has a small observatory tower, the vie of Tuscany is amazing. The view of the towers of San Gimignano is beautiful.

If your visiting the city even for an hour go here! The walk is up a hill, but it's really not that bad. If you're thinking about climbing one of the tower houses save your money and go here for a cheaper, better view. Surrounded by an olive orchard La Rocca should be a highlight of your visit.

If you want to see the city, you have to go on the rocca. Great view. And great walk to get there. A quieter place. Go there early.
