Description: The Renaissance banquets at the Medici court with game and vegetables of the lands of Tuscany come back to life in The Manger restaurant menu in the center of San Gimignano. In Via Mainardi in the stables of an ancient building, Susi and Paul Nannelli have recreated the atmosphere of other times, offering a cuisine that is inspired precisely by the ancient recipes reworked in a modern way: fillet of venison with vin santo and mushrooms, Wild Boar Remigio de 'Nannini and wild boar in sweet and sour sauce are just some of the unusual dishes to try for sure. The restaurant is run by Mrs. Susi who chooses only local products for the preparation of the dishes presented to guests with care even in appearance. Do not miss the Tuscan specialties such as Ribollita or pappardelle with wild boar, much loved by foreign tourists who visit the locale.Il restaurant is located in the historical center a few steps from Piazza Sant'Agostino in a living room with stone walls and brick arches ancients. The atmosphere is rustic and elegant and is eaten with a background in classical music. In summer there stands outdoors to enjoy in addition to the kitchen even the atmosphere of the medieval village. The management is friendly: the spouses Nannelli together with their daughters Annalisa and Giulia will welcome you with kindness and cordiality.

I visited La Mangiatoia with high expectations as friends had described it as "the best meal of their lives." Well for us, no. But it was certainly a great dining experience. The service was outstanding as we'd been lead to expect: attentive, courteous and welcoming.
The food was a mixed bag. The Gorgonzola and pear entre was to die for as was the deer stew, although unfortunately the Tuscan soup was poor and the salsicia risotto awful. We weren't able to taste the famed La Mangiatoia Wild Boar as it was not available on the night we dined.
All in all, it was a great dinner. Great, but no more than that.

We had a great afternoon in this restaurant, we arrived quite late, but they still accepted us with 5 people. Food was very good, the wine and the prosecco delicious.

Their cuisine products are slightly above the average. The staff are attentive and the location is very convenient if you are visiting S.Gimignano.

Visited this restaurant after reading other reviews on trip advisor. Waited thirty minutes for starter to be served. Antipasto for 18 euro which we shared very poor and overpriced. My husband had deer and I had lamb chops both ok but nothing special and at least 5 euro each overpriced. Having spent ten days in Tuscany and enjoyed some excellent food this is undoubtably the worst value for money and very disappointing.
