“Very good food except for the steak”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

Firstly this restaurant has a totally indoors cavern like feel with no alfresco dining which will suit some and not others.

The service is pretty professional and fairly friendly and it is a family run restaurant.

Whilst we really enjoyed most of what we had the Tagattala steak we had was an incredibly tasteless piece of meat although reasonably tender. I suspect that if you picked the right choices you nonetheless would have a great meal here. Having said that it is not nearly in the league of cum quibus which is not far down the road and takes all the detail of turning what is essentially simple food into great food to new heights.

We took our waitresses suggestion for our wine choice but did not enjoy it as much as we expected. It really tasted as though it could do with a half hour of breathing after decanting and with there have been great. This was despite a quite elaborate and impressive method of preparing the glasses for the wine.

“Lovely food, great wine”
Reviewed August 8, 2014

It was pouring with rain in July so we opted for a leisurely lunch - and where better to ignore the weather than deep in a cellar. The pasta was wonderful - I had pear ravioli with a lovely cheese sauce and we had some of the best spinach and beans of the trip. Wines were beautiful. Service friendly. It was busy, being just the two of us we got a table very quickly but bigger parties were having to wait. It did cost a wee bit more than some of our other meals out in Tuscony but San Gimignano is very popular with tourists so I think it still represented good value for the town.

“Out of The Way Gem”
Reviewed August 6, 2014 via mobile

We stopped in San Gimignano for dinner after a full day in a Florence. The reservations were made by our hosts for our rather large group. On the way to it, many in the group got sidetracked by the shops and became hopelessly lost the rest of us still found it hard to find and had to ask a local for directions. That said, once we were all assembled, it was well worth the effort! The food was excellent, as was the wine and the service. It's off the beaten path but look for it, it's definitely with it!!
