Fattoria Poggio Alloro
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 19, 2014

Four of us had lunch and winetasting at Poggio Alloro as part of a tour. The food was excellent. All organic, locally grown on site, and prepared from scratch. We had bruschetta, penne with a meat sauce, and roast pork with roast potatoes, almond biscotti for dessert. All superb. We tried four wines, all excellent. First a white made from a variety that grows only around San Gimignano, then a Chianti followed by a cabernet sauvignon, finally a dessert wine. All were excellent, but we liked the cabernet best. The Chianti sells for around 5 euros a bottle and the cabernet for 10 euros. They also bottle a merlot. We bought some of both. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly, efficient, knowledgeable.

The grounds are beautiful and the rooms look very nice from the outside. I would definitely consider staying there.

Set in beautiful Tuscany with gorgeous views of rolling hills, vineyards, and San Gimignano off, in the distance, atop it's own rising. As part of our "The Best of Tuscany" tour through Walkabout Florence, the lunch and wine tasting was one of many highlights. Lunch was very good. Wine included bottles of Chardonnay, Chianti, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Port. Our favorites were the Cabernet and the Port. Needless to say, each of these elements on their own is pretty awesome but when combined created a most festive time and many timeless memories. I did email them after our return to the US, inquiring about purchasing some of their wine but never received a response. This Best of Tuscany Tour through Walkabout (Sienna, Fattoria Poggio Alloro, San Gimignano, and Pisa) really helped make our week in Florence an exceptional experience.

Too bad there is only 5 stars for me to rate this wonderful place. We were there for 4 nights and I have never eaten better food or had more attentive service.......ever. A family business that raises everything that they make into their awesome meals......all organic. Animals, dairy, garden, vineyard, olive grove....everything. If absolutely fresh ingredients isn't enough, Sarah is a world-class chef who travels during the slow months worldwide giving cooking presentations! Obviously, that is an unbeatable combination if you like to eat great food and drink great wine.....their wine.
The rest of the family and staff are incredibly attentive. I'd return there in a heartbeat. It's also very well located in Tuscany so day trips from there are easy. The only problem with daytripping from Fattoria Poggio Alloro is you'll miss their lunch.

We biked here from our Agriturismo Niccolai, Palagetto di Sotto and the bike ride to get here was spectacular. THe view of San GIminiano was precious, as where the olive and lemon trees. The food was good and so was the wine. I give 5 for view, and 4 for food, but we only had one meal so I am sure it is probably great.

Our walkabout tot took us here for lunch and wine tasting. The views were breathtaking and the pasta was delicious! The white wine and the dessert wine were very good. We brought back a small bottle of dessert wine with biscotti. Personnel was very helpful and friendly. You got to visit any of this Fattorias in the Tuscany region. Hopefully I can going back in a few years.

I loved this place! My boyfriend and I spent a week at this glorious place and could not recommend it more. We used it as a base to explore Tuscany. The family and staff that run this fattoria are friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. Our room was lovely, it was very clean, the bed was very comfy and we had a great shower. There was plenty of clothes space and the room had air con if needed.

The view over to San Gimignano was spectacular, in fact I won't ruin it for you but do take the time to sit with a glass of wine by the pool and just take it in. We ate at the fattoria three of the evenings that we were there. The food was outstanding and just kept coming, we rolled back to our rooms at the end of the evening. Breakfast was also very good and very filling. Most of the food is produced on the farm and is of such good quality. The wine they produce is outstanding, their chianti is rather special and we came home with a car load of the their reds and whites.

Take the time to do the vineyard/winery tour. Walk through the vineyards to San Gimignano. Have dinner at the fattoria (especially on a Saturday evening). Drink lots of wine. Chat to the family and generally have a really great holiday. Enjoy

Even amid the beauty that all of Tuscany provides, this property enjoys a special place with San Gimignano straight ahead beyond the rolling hills covered with vineyards and forests. We tried to capture it with our cameras but just couldn't do it justice. The location was good for touring Tuscany once we solved the GPS difficulties (property isn't easily locatable but they give you instructions with check-in materials). The food was very good and the hospitality warm, friendly and patient. Our boys loved roaming around the pool area and farm, and the farm hands were kind and engaged them in conversation. The only downside was the second bed in our room; we expected the room to be simple (and it was) but that bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever known. However, it was a small price [for our boys] to pay for this special experience.
