While I didn't spend the night here, I did visit the winery as part of a tour through Tuscany. The property is absolutely beautiful and has gorgeous views of San Gimignano. Fausto, one of the owners (he runs the B and B and winery with his wife Susanna), provided us with a wonderful overview of wine production in the region, and then we got to have a light lunch and sample some of the products. The olives were amazing (and I usually don't like olives), as was the vernaccia. The meal was simple, good food, and everyone was really friendly. If I ever plan another trip to Tuscany, I will make sure to spend at least a day or two here, as it looks like it would be very relaxing, and a nice break away from all the tourists (and to have more of those olives)!

We spent a very pleasant and informative lunch and afternoon tasting the wines and learning about the wine making process. Very worthwhile and the hospitality was great.

We've visited Tuscany many times and stayed in a variety of hotels and apartments and Guardastelle is by far the best. It is the one place that we would return to time and time again.

This was our second visit here, having first stayed in September 2009. The location is fantastic, the scenery superb, the apartments immaculate and Susanna and Fausto the perfect hosts, making you feel part of their family whilst you are there.

Guaradastelle has been immaculately restored by Susanna and Fausto and there is a completely authentic Tuscan feel throughout. The landscaping of the gardens is beautiful and has been well thought out. The pool area is lovely with fantastic views over the vineyard and there is a most amazing view of San Gimignano from the balcony of the main farmhouse building where the B&B rooms are located.

It is a working vineyard and olive grove and they offer tastings if you would like to sample their wine and oil. It is well worth doing so as their extra virgin olive oil, Chianti and Vernaccia are fantastic. We deliberately go with half full suitcases so we can stock up!

In our different visits we have stayed in both the Orione and Perseo apartments and my husband's parents, who came with us this holiday, stayed in the Virgo apartment. All of them were lovely and what was so nice was that they were all individually designed and furnished, with a lot of furniture from Susanna's family. The kitchens in all of the apartments were extremely well equipped.

What we loved about the location itself is that it is in walking distance to San Gimignano. There is a road at the back of Guardastelle which provides you with a direct route to the town. It is a little hilly in places but only used to take us about 20 minutes to walk in (we are quite quick walkers). If you don't fancy the walk and you have a car, you can just drive up the back road and park up on the side of the road near the top.

We used to love walking up in early evening, when the majority of the tourists have left for the day, and wander round the medieval streets and have a drink in the main square. It was very atmospheric.

A new museum has opened in the town since our first visit called San Gimignano 1300 and this is well worth a visit. You can book through Susanna and Fausto and, by doing so, are guaranteed an English speaking guide. It was very informative and interesting and has a ceramic model of how the town used to look with all of its towers.

We've found basing ourselves in San Gimignano an ideal location to explore Tuscany as it is 10 minutes from the motorway to both Siena and Florence and takes only about 30 minutes to get to each place. Also, it's not that far from the heart of Chianti, taking only about 40 minutes to get to Castellina.

We love it here and are already planning our next trip!

I have to advice that there the parking is prohibited. Be careful to the local police!!

See you next year!

We stayed in Guardastelle for 2 weeks (myself, my husband, 2 kids and my nirece) in Antilia Apartment which was amazing. The apartment itself was brillant - it had everything we needed - really beautifully decorated and a terrace which overlooked the lovely pool and the views across the countryside amazing. The property and grounds were extremely clean and kept very tidy. My husband really enjoyed his wine tasting and would definetely recommend it - their wines excellent as well as their olive oil - so good! Location is very good - 5 min drive to San Gimignano and Florence, Siena, Volterra all within an hour or so drive! The owners Fausto and Susanna (& Niccolo) are so welcoming, friendly and helpful -Really lovely and genuine couple who work so hard to produce such an amazing property and all its facilties. Grazie Fausto & Susanna for everything. We miss it already! What an amazing family holiday we had! Hopefully see you next year or maybe you visit Ireland! :)

A Tuscany Gem! Truly a paradise! Words can't describe how wonderful this place is but I will give it a try. Agriturismo Guardastelle is a family estate and wine/oil producer that sits on top of a hill overlooking beautiful landscaped acreage which is surrounded by delightful gardens, grape vineyards, olive groves, Tuscany rolling hills, beautiful swimming pool and
a gorgeous scenic view of the town of San Gimignano. The views are breath-taking and could be found in magazines like Travel+Leisure! Susanna and Fausto are the owners who are very friendly, adorable and have a strong passion for their work. They made us feel special and were very appreciative of our visit to Guardastelle. They both speak good English. They were very helpful and informative in answering all of our many questions regarding shopping, sightseeing, dining, and Guardastelle. They were delightful hosts and eager to please. They are a husband and wife team and it is obvious that they spend many hours overseeing this successful business. It is nice to see a young couple who enjoy working together in a business where each have their own roles and expertise. We rented a large B&B room named Settimio for 6 nights which was nicely decorated with Tuscan charm and was very clean and spotless. It was a reasonably priced en-suite with two bedrooms and a TV. Both the double bed and sofa bed were extremely comfortable. It is the only B&B that has a pergola, private entrance and no air conditioning (ac). (Note: All of the other units have ac.) Even though it had no air conditioning, it was extremely cool and comfortable inside and the ac was not even missed. Apparently, Settimio was part of the original house and it was a cellar at one time. The unit overlooked the vineyards. You felt that you were living in your very own Tuscan villa! We enjoyed many meals sitting under the pergola and watching the wildlife in the trees and vineyards. I would definitely rent it again. The free breakfast provided many delicious options, which included egg, parma ham, salami, cheese, yogurt, fruit, bread/rolls, pastry, butter/jam, juice, cereal, coffee, tea, milk, etc. There was plenty of good food to start off your day. Roberta was our host for breakfast and she made sure we were happy. She fixed the best cappuccinos! She speaks mostly Italian and some English. She was very funny and started our day with a smile! My husband and daughter are celiacs and my husband is also lactose-intolerant. They served gluten-free bread and sweet biscuits to them. Additionally, they served soy milk and soy yogurt to my husband. WOW! We really appreciated their thoughtfulness. They went out of their way to make sure they could enjoy breakfast. We were lucky enough to be there on the day that they were bottling one of their chianti wines. As busy as they were, they let us watch, take pictures, and they answered
our questions! Fausto did a special wine/oil tasting and wine tour for us in the afternoon after having a large group earlier that day. They prepared a delicious gluten-free pasta and bread with their awesome olive oil and we tasted 3 of their wonderful wines. Their wines are fantastic! Very mellow and no after taste. We bought some of their wine, olive oil, and
olives to take back home. Fausto gave us some packaging material so we could pack it in our luggage without breakage. The town of San Gimignano is about a 20 minute walk from Guardastelle. It's a nice scenic walk and has some steep inclines but tolerable. We enjoyed the walk and went into town numerous times! The town is a very quaint Tuscan town with lots of shopping, restaurants and sightseeing. We loved it! I would definitely recommend Guardastelle for anyone looking for a remarkable and relaxing place to stay in Tuscany. We used Guardastelle as a base camp and day tripped to Siena, Monticiano, Volterra, and other small cities because each city was less than a 45 minute commute. We miss Guardastelle and miss feeding those cute ducks in your nearby pond! We hope to return someday. Thank you Susanna and Fausto for making our stay memorable. - Tom, June, and Becca

This accomodation has the most stunning views you have seen of Tuscany. Photos do not do it justice.
Took my boyfriend for a short break and he LOVED it. We stayed in the Orione apartment and whilst we dont usually like to cook while we are away it was a pleasure to cook in our beautiful kitchen. Very rustic and homely.
Fausto and his wife are so warm and friendly.
San Gimignano is beautiful and a lovely 25 minute walk away or 5 minutes in the car.
The most fun we had was in the local supermarket where you are spoilt for choice with all the delicious meats, pasta and deserts.
Please visit this place it is so breathtaking.

Beautiful property and location with gorgeous vies of San Gimignano and the surrounding countryside from the property, pool and breakfast terrace. Within walking distance of the town, made it ideal for day long sightseeing (avoiding the parking hassles and fees).

Closeness was also a downside - most restaurants required a drive into town and fighting with the same parking issues. Many restaurants required reservations to be sure of a table.

The rooms appeared to vary in their amenities - ours had a TV (not all did by all accounts), while some others had refrigerators (ours didn't). Our room was quiet but somewhat removed from the main guest area, which tended to make one feel a little isolated. Room was comfortable enough, although the bathroom was a little tight.

The pool was pleasant although crowded at times depending on the guest profiles. Breakfast was standard fare, and much the same day to day. The owners were pleasant and professional although we felt we were being "managed" - not quiet what we were expecting from an Agriturismo.

Recommended if you want an ideal location close to San Gimignano - if you don't want to rub shoulders with tourists and tour buses this isn't the ideal part of Tuscany.

Dear "dakaered",
first of all thanks for the review. But I have to let you know few things about Guardastelle. The same that everybody can read on the website.

In Guardastelle we have two kind of services:
B&B BEDROOMS: Rented daily. Bed linen and towels can be changed daily. Breakfast included. NO TV and NO fridge or refrigerator.
SELF CATERING APARTMENTS: Chiper, if you compare the price. Rented weekly. Breakfast is NOT included and NO daily clean. But they have fridge and TV and are more privately.

You booked the SETTIMIO bedroom. Some guests (and Tripadvisor member) suggest this bedroom because is more private.

Regarding the crowd in San Gimignano.....this town is like a big city. I always suggest to come to visit in early Spring or Autumn.
