As we walked in, there was a nice interior. The woman on reception was very rude and was like this throughout our stay. It took a shine off the other hotel staff which was such a shame because they were all so nice. We had a meal in the restaurant the first night which was reasonably priced.
Room: Double aspect. Opposite an underpass. Room smelt heavily of smoke.
Sleep was interesting - heard every noise going past. Room at opposite side to train line, however still heard everything. Over the restaurant could here all chairs scraping on floor. Overall a very disturbed sleep. Noise not as bad second night.
Breakfast: large variety of foods, ham, cheese, toast, fresh fruit, croissants (with and without glaze) donuts, juices, cereals and coffee.
Evening: When we got back we had a cocktail in the hotel. Used all concentrated juices for my piña colada, so didn't taste as nice. Checkout 12pm which is good and free parking at the back.
Pisa: Takes about 10 mins to walk to piazza and tower. €2 for cathedral. Ticket office signposted well. Best to go early mornings or evening to see sunrise/sunset. Not much else to do in Pisa.
Walked in early evening (not a nice walk back in the dark) decided to go up the Leaning Tower €15 each. Had an introduction at the bottom before walking up. Sights were lovely although wish we'd gone a little earlier to catch the sunset. Went for dinner near the tower. Best Pizzas we've had all honeymoon!! Had herbs to enhance taste. Walked back in dark aware of lots of men groups around us.
Walked to Pisa train station to get a train to Lucca, took about 20 minutes. Ticket machines can be translated in English and are easy to use.
Lucca : (beautiful Tuscan walled
city) Lots of wandering streets, can hire segways at torture museum (they have these in every city we've been too) as well as bikes. Can get quadruple bikes which are quite fun to ride on the city walls.
Viareggio: (short journey by car) we visited for a drink and to look at the boats, these are very big, power and yachts. Apparently beaches are all private - these are apparently at a cost although we did not go to one.
If driving, watch out for mopeds, they seem to come from everywhere.
Overall: good location, easy to explore local cities and most of the staff are extremely friendly!!
