“disrespectful treatment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

When we arrived having booked months earlier (using booking.com) we were told there were no rooms for us. We had to wait in the midday sun for nearly 45 minutes to be moved to alternative accommodation (this with elderly folk and young children)The receptionist could not have been less helpful . The owner arrived and spent 5 minutes talking on his mobile before introducing himself as the driver and taking all 6 of us plus luggage to another hotel. He was clearly not interested in discussing the problem.

It was a much cheaper alternative and altho staff there were friendly the family room was tiny. The receptionist at Villa S had promised that our taxi fares from the airport to the Villa S would be reimbursed but the owner refused. We were offered a discount on our Villa S rates which effectively meant that we paid the full rate for the alternative hotel but the room we were given as a 4 person room is actually sold as a triple so my kids shared a single bed for 2 nights which was not comfortable for them at all.

Overall given the plethora of similar complaints I would not recommend this hotel. It is a clear the owner has no interest in providing good customer service. I looked around the outside of the property as well and can state unequivocably we would not have used the pool (it was filthy) and the outside areas were a mess. In some ways it probably worked out better to be moved!

Conclusion - book elsewhere.

it could have been that nice (as at first glance from streetside it looks quite pretty), but: never enter the unclean pool (could not see the ground in 5 feet deep, smelling, milky water), never look from the terrace down (rubbish all over the ground) and do not try to shower (almost no water coming out and mould all over). good idea and probably nice place once ago but rather depraved in the meantime. staff very nice and friendly. what a pitty as there is much potential.

Re the Suites Villa Soriano: We arrived there as planned and booked [since January], and they refused us our room, saying Bookings.com had overbooked. I pointed out whom we had booked through, Venere.com, and how long ago, even receiving an email from them recently enquiring about our arrival time on the day to which we had responded.

Their treatment of us was shoddy and completely without any concern. The receptionist declared they only had to see we had a room somewhere and were not obliged to honour the booking with them there. Total "who cares" attitude. In fact they later advised Venere.com that we had cancelled the booking - a downright lie. They should be struck from all lists and named publicly.

They sent us over the other side of the city to what is effectively a backpackers hostel, Hotel Mazzini, another place apparently owned by the same guy - nice people there, but the place wholly unsuitable for us. Risky small lift, which we refused to use as it barely moved and broke down next day. So up and down 5 flights of stairs with our luggage. Room in loft -clean and tidy, but you had to duck through most of it to avoid cracking head and it was perishing hot with no windows to look out, only 2 as roof lights. For backpackers it is probably fine. It was not for us. Plus no breakfast. The "reduced price" for us there was actually 5 Euros more per night than the usual price, as we discovered once home!

I do not think they should get away with treating people like that. Total lack of respect and frankly dishonest.

Room Tip: Don't take the risk. Go somewhere else!

You're never going to be in Pisa for more than one night, so this b&b is perfect for an en route stop over. We were upgraded to a spacious 2 room annexe without any fuss. It's well appointed, has off street parking, is an easy 10 min walk from the tower... In short, all you need. Well priced too.

Some might find it quirky what with its antique furnishing and somewhat Gothic interior decor; others might find Suites Villa Soriano dull and dismal. Our room on the first floor, seemed to have been furnished from every antique shop in Pisa. To be fair it was large, clean and the bed was comfy enough. Pity the runners for the drape curtains were hanging off the wall. The bathroom, although small, was functional albeit the shower cubicle was a tight squeeze.
Michaela the manageress is charming and helpful; she had even phoned us in the UK the day before our departure to enquire what time we would arrive to make sure she would be around. As we did arrive quite late, and didn’t fancy going into town to find a restaurant, Michaela suggested we get a pizza from the take away and eat it in our room. As the take away was only a two minute walk away that seemed to be an ideal solution, and by the way, the pizza was excellent washed down by a bottle of red which the take away also sells.
Breakfast, simple but plentiful, consisted of croissants, toast, yogurts, cereals etc and the excellent coffee is worth a mention.
The B&B is close to town, a 15 minute walk down the street and via the football stadium takes you directly to the leaning tower and the cathedral, so it is an ideal base for exploring Pisa.
If you are driving on street parking is available and you can also park in the garden.
There is a small swimming pool but due to the time of year, early April, it was not available and anyway it looked a bit out of place in the front garden close to the street.
In summary Suites Villa Soriano provides adequate B&B accommodation but at a price. It’s not swish and it’s not particularly cheap, £160 or thereabouts for two nights, but it is in a touristy city so that’s maybe to be expected.

Room Tip: Room 104 if you like Gothic

We booked this hotel because it was within walking distance from the Tower; it was in a quiet street; had free parking and breakfast, and looked nice and modern. When we arrived, this all seemed true, but the owner informed us that there was an electricity problem and that he had to transfer us to another hotel. We kindly accepted, but he brought us to a hotel 3 kms from the Tower; on a very noisy street, with parking but without breakfast; and the room looked very shabby and unpleasant. He offered us a 20 euro discount from our 105 euro room. We complained that we were very unhappy with this room/location. The situation then got very unpleasant - he would not listen, said that it was not his problem, that he could do nothing for us and eventually, started yelling and drove away in his car, leaving us without a place to stay. Eventually, he called back through the housekeeper that he offered us the room for 80 euros. We accepted, because it was getting late. It was as unpleasant as we thought and we felt very uncomfortable being treated this way. In other words, Villa Soriano is probably a nice place, but do not expect any help if things go wrong. Service is clearly not on the owner's mind.

I had a good rest in this hotel. The staff is competent and the ouner helped us very often. Our big room #3 was very nice decorated and clean. The location of the villa is very comfortable for visiting the tower.
