“Unexpected delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

We stopped off in Pisa to see the Leaning Tower, not realising that this was part of a much bigger, beautiful Piazza, often compared with St Marks Square in Venice. I am not a great one for comparisons, so suffice to say that I enjoyed St Marks Square and I enjoyed this visit just as much! The three beautiful works of architecture in such close proximity was a wonderful delight, all that more enjoyed because of the unexpected nature of the experience.

“Try to avoid the busiest times”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

Really enjoyed wandering around here. The leaning tower is fascinated and looks like it will fall over soon! Wonderful duomo and lots of history with information boards to read. Lots of little stalls if you want to buy some tatt! Be prepared for the crowds though. Probably best to visit quite early in the morning or late afternoon/early evening. Fight your way through visitors getting photos taken 'propping up the tower'. We did that too!

“Beautiful but for all the tourists”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

This piazza is the location of the leaning tower and the most visited area of the city. It has become so overrun with tourists that you really have to work to enjoy the beauty of this place. The architecture, scenery and the grand scope of the place is often ignored by most tourists who are scurrying to the tower to get a picture of themselves holding it up. Some of the piazza was closed off by Polizia because of some squabble by the vendors located in the area.

“Torre”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Firstly I suppose one of the highlights of visiting Pisa is the Leaning Tower. Yes it is a magnificent sight, and when you walk the 360o you marvel at how it has stood for so long. Having seen it you then want to climb to the top and take in the surrounding vista. To do this we queued like so many others for the tickets at a cost of 18 euros per person ( this is the bugbear, the cost is extremely high). You are not allowed to take bags up the tower so you are able to leave them in the luggage lockers next to the ticket office, but only 10 minutes or less prior to ascent. There are 254 steps to the bell tower, and you will meet people on their descent. If your knees or hips give problems maybe you should avoid this.

“A real oasis in Pisa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Loved the quiet solace of the piazza. A must see while in Pisa. Not a bad walk from the train station even on a drizzly day.
