“Great basic food”
Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

Pisa has little to offer outside of the tower and the cathedral but La Buca was a nice little surprise. We had a terrific lasagna and pasta and an alforgotti for dessert. The food was great and the service was quick and friendly.

“Best among tourist joints by the Leaning Tower”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

La Buca is one of about a half dozen restaurants at the end of via Santa Maria just steps from the tower. While none of these is among the best restaurants I have frequented, La Buca is the best among them (Ristorante Toscano is not bad, Antoinetta to be avoided) and all in all not a bad restaurant.

The menu offers the typical fare, with ravioli, spaghetti carbonara, lasanga etc. as first plates and a reasonable selection of second plates. The last time there I had a decent ravioli noce followed by vitello milanese (ravioli in nut sauce and breaded veal cutlet) with a fruit salad for desert. All were pretty good, and the 24E pricetag was not bad, including a 3.60 charge for service, a bottle of mineral water, and a coke. The service was friendly and attentive so I did not mind what I consider a high service charge. The pizzas here are not bad but a bit small. If you want pizza, go nest door to Il Toscano.

One local item on the menu not founded in other tourist places is tuscan white beans served as a side with meat dishes. They are quite good here. When I lived in Pisa some years back, I occasionally frequented La Buca in the winter and found that it maintains a good core of Italian customers in the off season.

You rank LaBuca's fare among your most memorable meals, but you won't regret going either. The interior sala is pleasant and clean, and the small outdoor area is cozy and offers a nice view of the tower. Overall the best among the tourist restaurants in this area.

“Decent for such a touristy-y place as Pisa”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

We've been here a few times and it's never disappointed. Prices are 25% higher than equivalent restaurants not in the middle of Pisa, but given this is in the middle of Pisa it's not too bad.

Most of the eating space is outside under awnings, with less space inside. Food is pizzas, pastas, regional meat and salads. €10-12 pp.

Service is fairly slow (took 15 minutes to be able to pay), but the food came quickly initially.

Portions are on the small side, but tasty. I had pasta with shrimps and a rich creamy sauce. Very nice indeed.

Catering for kids is decent (they do kids' portions and have high chairs).

None of the restaurants near the Tower/Duomo are going to win Michellin stars, but this is probably the best balance of value and taste. Very busy though, so get there before 1pm for lunch.

“Stay away! Worst I`ve been to in Italy, and probably whole Europe...”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

Food was boring and bad, drinks came late, service was horrible, and seated us at a terrible table. Tip was included in bill, and I understand why... They did not follow up on us, even when the place was quiet. Only reason this place survives is the location.

Not much more to say, but STAY AWAY!

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your meal here,
but we have to clarify that the waiter's tip is absolutely not included in the bill
and is not obligatory.
What you are referring to is "service" (which you find in every page of our Menù)
that we apply just like every restaurant in here.

“A great place for lunch”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

My daughter and I took the train to Pisa and wandered our way to the tower. We found this resturant on a side street and were very pleased with our meal and service. I had roasted chicken and my daughter had lasgne. Everything about the meal was wonderful.
