Owner description: It is called the Leaning Tower or the Tower of Pisa but actually it was never used for defending the city; it is part of the religious complex in the Duomo Square and acts as its bell tower. It played an active role in both human and divine timekeeping with its seven bells – one for each musical note – the largest of which, cast in 1655, weighs a full three and a half tonnes! It is known throughout the world for the beauty of its architecture, for its extraordinary tilt, which makes it an authentic miracle of statics, and for the fact that it stands in the universally renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, of which it is certainly the prize jewel. And this is why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

One of the those world-famous sights you just have to see. It's an ornate tower and it leans over. You can climb up it if you want and if you buy a ticket. It doesn't take long, no great drama to get to the top. The cathedral next door has an impressive exterior too - unfortunately it was difficult to see a great deal inside because lots of building work was underway during our visit.

Funny to watch hundreds of people standing around with a hand in the air and their friends trying to get a photo properly lined up with the tower.

Glad we went - a nice place to be for a couple of hours.

We prebought tickets online and climbed the tower. Definitely a must do! Beautiful views of the city. Beautiful, well maintained campus. We spent some time in the church and did a bit of shopping too. Great way to spend a morning in Tuscany!

We went up the Tower on our last night in Pisa and I cannot express how beautiful the view was! In my opinion this is a must do! I've been to Pisa several times without going up there but I regret not doing it before!

It was very cool to see in person, but I probably wouldn't plan to spend more than 30-45 minutes here unless you are planning on climbing the tower. Defintely don't plan to eat lunch here as most of the restaurants in the immediate area are tourist traps with very poor quality food and service.

Iconic building does not disappoint but to get a good view you need to be here early as everyone seems to want a photo of themselves holding up the structure (why?).

We bought e-tickets at the tourist information for the other main buildings but the tower is extra.

If you only walk around the piazzayou should not miss this if in the area.
