Owner description: It is called the Leaning Tower or the Tower of Pisa but actually it was never used for defending the city; it is part of the religious complex in the Duomo Square and acts as its bell tower. It played an active role in both human and divine timekeeping with its seven bells – one for each musical note – the largest of which, cast in 1655, weighs a full three and a half tonnes! It is known throughout the world for the beauty of its architecture, for its extraordinary tilt, which makes it an authentic miracle of statics, and for the fact that it stands in the universally renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, of which it is certainly the prize jewel. And this is why it is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

we had a stopover of 4 Hrs in pisa and we are not sorry. It is amaicing that the tower can still stand. Unfurtunaly the entrance fee to the tower and bacilica is much to high and we did not enter. Instead i made nice fotos which was just as good.

We were advised prior to our trip to Lucca not to worry about visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa as it was not worth seeing, it's "just a tower that leans" we were told. Well since we had the afternoon free after our visit to Lucca, we decided to go ahead and take the short drive to Pisa. My were we glad we did! The drive was easy (thanks to Garmin) and stress free and well worth our time. We were astounded by the entire square, the Duomo, the Cathedral and of course the Tower itself. It is something you just have to see to appreciate. The Duomo and the Cathedral were every bit as beautiful as the Tower. We were truly impressed. We did not climb the tower due to time constraints but are so grateful we did not miss this site in our visit to Tuscany. Yes there will be lots of people taking photo trying to "hold up the tower" but that's all in fun right! And there will be lots of street vendors tempting you to buy their cheep wares - so just ignore them or not, it's up to you, no big deal there either. One word of caution though, when parking do not give the time of day to the hucksters who will try to sell you a parking ticket for 20 euros! We were pr- warned of this scam so this is your warning! The only parking tickets to trust are the ones you get yourself out of the meters. We paid for 3 hours of parking and still had 45 minutes left when we returned to our vehicle and the hucksters where at my window asking if they could have this ticket. We said no as these are the tickets they try to sell to unsuspecting "victims" arriving later. By then it is expired and you WILL get an expensive parking ticket on top of paying 20 euros!! So...GO....enjoy the Leaning Tower of Pisa, it's not to be missed.

Really nice building to admire. If we consider this was built so long time ago, this must have been a piece of art at that time. both the tower and the surroundings are well maintained.

Well worth visiting as there is plenty to see on the site as well as the tower. Amusing watching fellow travellers contorting their bodies in an effort to create a photo of themselves supporting the tower.
