Owner description: The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

“A must do in Pisa”

There's nothing quite like the dizzy feeling you get from walking up the tower on the well-worn marble treads. 15€ for a 15 minute visit is worth it. The day we visited entrance to the Cathedral was free too. Staff are friendly and well organised in assisting visitors from ticket purchase to the climb itself. If you are travelling independently make sure you get there before the large tour groups arrive which is around 11am.

“Go to the top!”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

The Tower is beautiful, but you if you took the time to come to Pisa to see it, PLEASE pay the fee and climb the steps to the top of the Tower--you won't regret it! It cost around $100 for my family of four to climb the Tower, but it was worth every penny. The view is spectacular, and when you're walking around the top, you can certainly feel the 'lean'. We had a lovely clear day and we sat up there for at least 45 minutes. Those working at the Tower are very friendly, and you even get a short history lesson inside the base before assending the steps. Pisa is a great little city, and the square in which the Tower sits is their crown jewel. Climb the steps and enjoy standing in one of the Wonders of the World!

“Hold up the tower...but bring your own shade”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

Beautiful countryside on our way from Florence to Pisa....and easy parking a block from the entrance...1.5€ per hour. We hiked over with half of humanity to see the tower and take the picture everyone takes of holding up the tower.....blistering hot and zero shade...Be prepared.

“world treasure”

You have to make sure you get the photo holding it up :) It is one of those things that you really have to do at least once in your life, the pictures you see dont do it too much justice. Its huge and the views are amazing! Perhaps a little on the expensive side for what it is but we all had a great time. And we had the most delicious gelato of all our Italy trip straight after!

“Regret not going up the tower!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

If i see a tower I normally make a point of making it to the top - but on this occasion I was running behind schedule and in the back of my mind I was thinking that it would be a rushed experience for 18 euros. However the Leaning Tower can be admired at all angles for free and is one of the classic travel sites that is so well known. In February it was fairly busy and the I'm wondering what it would be like at other times of the year. At dusk the crowds thin out and the sunset can make a dramatic backdrop for pictures.
