“Complete Chaos!”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Bad Points
- Mosquitoes in the room, was cleaned poorly, only half a roll of toilet paper and double bed was two singles pushed together (seems common in Italy).
- Not a real hotel/hostel, seems to be the downstairs of someones house, Reception is a desk in a small hallway blocking access to your room.
- Every time we came back to premises it was a different person working who seems to have no contact with the previous person. Super unorganized and terrible communication.
- Kicked us out of our room at 9.30pm on our second night as they had a internal communication stuff up*.

Good Points
- Location is 500 metres from airport
- Rate was good for Pisa, 50 euros for double room with private bathroom

*When we checked in we specified two nights, when we met the owner that night who checked our passports we specified two nights, when we left a note that next morning we reminded them we were here for one more night and to call us if there were issues. 9.30pm we get back and our room is empty, our stuff is in the hallway (except a cupboard of clothes they forgot to move out) and apparently someone else is moving into that room later that night. Of course there is a third new person on reception who claims we should have moved out that morning, read our note but apparently decided not to call even though we had left everything in our room and taken the key!! Absolutely ridiculous!

To the poor girl on receptions credit it wasn't her fault but the previous 2 people who had not passed on anything and she found us a replacement hotel for the same rate. We were then told we could catch a bus or taxi to our new place as it was 40minutes walk across town. Both of which we were expected to pay for (and after asking for the bus timetable they had stopped running!!). After kicking up a fuss they managed to arrange a ride for us.

Steer clear!

We stayed here for 1 night, since our flight was leaving very early from Pisa airport. The hotel is at a 5 min walk from the airport, so that is great! We booked our room (with a shared bathroom) online through booking.com, and when we arrived at the hotel we upgraded it to a room with a bathroom (for ourselves). The room was clean, standard, not to comfortable beds, but ok. The room had free wifi. Our room was next to the reception, so it was a bit nosy. I would have not stayed here for more then 1 night (or for a holiday adress), because it has no atmosphere, nice views, etc. But for a night (connecting to a flight) it is great.

Room Tip: I would pay a bit more to have your own bathroom.

I booked a room at Beside Pisa Airport over a month ago, but when my friend and I recently arrived in Pisa, the place had no rooms due to a supposed "problem" with the reservation program. The girl at the reception told us that we would be transferred to a different hotel in Pisa in about 20 minutes. However, we ended waiting for over an hour before we were taken to the other hotel. Consequently, we arrived at our hotel in the wee hours of the morning completely exhausted. The whole experience was extremely frustrating, so I wouldn't recommend choosing to stay here in the first place.

I landed in Pisa late at night and had reserved this 'hostel' online. It is close to the airport and very handy. Check-In was laboured and there were other people there who had made reservations but the receptionist (sat in a corridor with a laptop) had told this couple to wait as she had no room! (it was 11pm. My room was not in the same building and I was taken 5 minutes down the road to a dorm room with three beds. I had reserved a female dorm and was sharing with two guys! Bathroom was clean but security was non existent. FREE wifi though which always soothe any problems for a backpacker! the lights did not work in the room but did everywhere else.
overall keep your expectations low, it is what it is, very cheap accommodation right beside the airport, NO FRILLS!! even with all this i would use it again as it is so handy and cheap.

Beside Pisa Airport is a reasonably good deal if you don’t set your expectations for service too high. We had an early morning flight from Pisa airport scheduled, and we wanted to save money on taxi fare. This is the closest hotel to the airport, only a five-minute walk, and it is easy to find. Just go straight out the airport doors, go under the highway, and walk another three minutes. It is on the left side of the main street, Via del Aeroporto. Rooms are clean and adequate in size, and there are no stairs to climb. Wifi is free. Taking a taxi from the airport/train station to any other hotel would cost at least 9 euro, we were told at the airport. So even though this hotel is not perfect, for a one-night stay, it saved us two taxi trips and 18 euro. Since it is so close to the train station, it would even be good for longer stays for budget-minded travelers who don’t need a lot of services.

I had read that checking in can be a problem here, because the clerk is not always on site, and this did happen to us. However, she left the main door slightly ajar, and we went in. Then we called the phone number and we were told which room we could use and that the key would be in the door, so we were not inconvenienced. However, had we simply stayed outside, we would have had to wait for an hour and probably would not have had such a favorable experience. I was able to speak Italian on the phone, thus I can't say whether the phone receptionist can speak English or not, but probably so. When the clerk came, she spoke English OK. Her credit card machine was not working, so we had to pay cash, which was annoying. There is no breakfast, but we knew this in advance. I would recommend getting a room with private bath, because we were briefly in room 1, without private bath, and it had a musty odor.

Friendly lad welcomed us after phone call - he turns up on a scooter - quite laid-back
Rooms good sized and clean.
Shared toilet/shower OK for hostel type accommodation. Go with it.
Kettle and drinks available. Fridge.
Free computer use - handy for airline bookings. There is a good internet point room, with printers, upstairs at Pisa Airport .
Airport 5 mins walk away - great for early morning flights. Save all that taxi money!
City of Pisa 15mins walk, bus stop also outside.
Good pizza cafe across road.

Room Tip: can be noisy on road side.

My boyfriend and I booked online a room (with private bathroom) at Beside Pisa Airport for the 13th of August. The description of the hotel seemed very convenient, since our flight was the day after at 06.00 am. When we arrived at the place (it is not a B&B, definitely is not a hotel, it is just a place where you rent a room to sleep), there was no one to welcome us. WE rang the phone number and finally a girl came to tell us that our room was not ready since the previous guest was still sleeping. She told us that it was too early to check in and that we should have got back in a couple of hours. It was 12.30 pm and we thought that we could go to the tower and see a bit of Pisa. We got back at 15.30 and again, there was no one to be seen: we rang again the number and the same girl came after 20 min. She gave us the key of the room, I paid but when we went to the room, surprise, surprise, the room did not have a private bathroom (as advertised) . I therefore raised the issue with the girl who tried to contact the owner but did not have enough credit on her mobile (and there was no internal phone): after a few attempts, she finally spoke to him who said that there were no other rooms available, and that there had been a mistake with the website so the real price of the room with the private bathroom was 80 euros and not 55 as I had paid online. After a short discussion, we decided to get the room we were given but the owner agreed to give us 10 euros back: once in the room, I tried to raise the blinder (the avvolgibile) since it was extremely hot. However, the bathroom's room did not have a key and did not close properly plus, the room's avvolgibile was broken, so the option was either to say in the dark and suffocate (it was the middle of August in Pisa!) or to try to get some air but putting something (a brick or a pile of books!!) to keep the window open. Again, I raised the issue with the girl, who rang with our phone the owner who started to get very annoyed!! (I could hear him raising the voice from the phone). At the end he asked the girl to put us in a room with the private bathroom (a room that did not exist before) for the 55 euros. So, I gave her the 10 euros back. About 5 minutes later, the owner rang the girl and asked her to move us back in a room without bathroom (again, another available room suddenly appeared!) and gave us the 10 euros back. We were extremely tired but also extremely annoyed for the unprofessional behavior and lack of honesty that we decided to get leave the room and we required out money back. The girl gave us the whole amount back and we left that renting-room place. We went back to Pisa airport to look for another room in another hotel (which we did , for the same price, a bit distant from the airport but with a much better customer service).
I would not reccomend Beside Pisa Airport: the location is good if you have a short connection flight and you need to rest but the customer service is terrible and if you get a room with a private bathroom is ok, but if you get one with a shared ones... well... for 80 euros it is possible to find a proper hotel room, with bathroom and breakfast included and also pay the taxi fare to the airport...
