My wife and sons have Celiac disease (gluten intolerance). We wanted to go to Osteria dei Cavalieri, which is listed in the book The Gluten Free Guide To Italy. They weren't serving lunch at the time, but they referred us here, to their sister restaurant Sosta dei Cavalieri right down the road.
When we asked for something gluten free the host said no problem. When we added that we try to eat vegetarian as well, he was thrown... for about a second. Then he consulted with the chef and whipped up some delicious gluten free pasta with whatever fresh seasonal veggies they had, including tomatoes, snap peas, and olive oil. I am not gluten free, and I had the homemade spinach cannoli (I believe). It was all mouth wateringly delicious. I think I licked the plate.
The host explained that my dish was made with a cheese that is only in season for three months (I believe it was ricotta). Their knowledge of food really pays off... for my stomach! It was fantastic. And the host was very nice and friendly. The restaurant is beautiful, and has an extensive wine cellar area. Our meal was a bit pricey, but it was worth it. We would definitely go here again.
