“Fabulous hotel, extremely helpful and friendly staff”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Myself and my family stayed here for 3 nights mid August. Perfect location within the walls of Lucca. We had a car but were able to park it in their parking lot just a minute away. The girl on reception could not have been more helpful in allocating us interconnecting rooms which were just fabulous. Very good air con which was needed as the weather was so hot while we were there. Breakfast was nice too. Overall we loved this hotel would highly recommend it.

Nicely located, with excellent rooms (ours was #42). The staff was very cordial, and spoke English well. The hotel does not offer a dinner restaurant, but does have a very comfortable cocktail lounge. There was serious problems with the wi-fi during our three day stay. Hotel management insisted the rain storm was affecting the entire block, but the cafe at the corner had a clear, strong signal all three days. The hotel staff tried in every way to provide hotel office computer time to any guest who needed access, while their wi-fi was down. We would definitely revisit this hotel.

The hotel was ideally situated for the city and within a very few minutes walk from the bus station. The train station was about a 10-15 minute walk away with luggage.

The room was good, the bed very comfy, the air-con worked well and wasn't too noisy. Wifi worked well and was free (despite previous reviewers' comments)!! The breakfast was good.

The service from the reception staff was very friendly and helpful. We always ask for restaurant recommendations and all those we tried were very good.

Only grip, which relates to all the Italian hotels stayed in, was that there are no tea/coffee room facilities... but this is not a negative purely relating to this hotel.

Would I go back? Yes.... most definitely!

The hotel is in a fine position inside the city walls.

The rooms were a good size, clean and the wifi both worked and was free. The air con was excellent.

Hotel staff were both very friendly and very helpful. All of the restaurant recommendations given were good.

The breakfast was your typical buffet affair and it was ok. I've had better. For instance us Brits like our tea with Milk..... so can we have a nice little jug provided please :)

My only gripe is one that all Italian hotels fail on.... tea and coffee facilities in the room....

I'd have no hesitation in going back.

Located in fabulous Lucca, this hotel is superb in every way. The rooms are spacious and very clean and comfortable. The staff were most attentive and met our every need. Franco in the bar is a true gem to this establishment, nothing was ever a problem, such a sincere and pleasant person. I would highly recommend this hotel with great confidence as it is consistent and reliable in every way. Very amenable to Piazza san Michele and Via Fillungo.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in April 2013

We were traveling with our best friends, and stayed at the San Luca Palace primarily based on two caveats, we wanted to be stay within the walls, and wanted a hotel with good Trip Advisor feedback. San Luca Palace delivered on both accounts.

Due to a horrible delay on the autostrada (it was closed for several hours), we finally arrived very late on our first night, close to midnight. The night clerk was a very friendly gentleman who had given us directions on the phone (very patiently and over several calls). Upon our arrival, he walked us up to our room, and showed us all the amenities. He also arranged for the night barman/bellman/valet, jack of all trades--I believe his name was Franco-- to assist us with our bags and to park our car within their gated parking lot. In other words, he went above an beyond to make sure we were settled and had everything we needed. It was 5 star service for certain.

Franco also whipped us up some drinks and snacks as we were famished and everything was closed up tight for the night.

The room we booked was a Junior Suite, and it was basically a very large room with a small table, and comfortable chairs. Not necessarily a "suite" by american standards, but a gigantic room by italian standards.

The bathroom was updated, well lit, with plenty of room--another rare commodity in Italy, and very nice and modern. Ample closet space, slippers in the room, all in all one of the nicest rooms we've had in a small town in Italy.

The hotel has a very nice buffet breakfast that was included in our rate, and nice bar with plush salon style indoor setting, as well as outdoor seating along the little pedestrian and bicycle street that runs alongside the hotel.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they gave us spot-on restaurant recommendations, and answered our many questions politely and with good information.

The hotel has bicycles you can borrow--and I HIGHLY recommend you do, and the ramp to ride the wall is right outside the hotel, about 200 meters away. This was one of the most enjoyable things we did while in Lucca, it was a very leisurely 90 minute ride, including a long wine/snack stop in the middle. The views into the city are fantastic, and you can see the more-modern Lucca outside the wall at the same time in a fascinating juxtaposition of viewpoints.

We would absolutely return to the San Luca Palace on our next visit.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook a courtyard that will be a little quieter

Located in the historic center of Lucca, the hotel offers excellent service. The room (24) was spacious and very nice, the reception very helpful. Parking access is best from the Piazza Verde, not through the old city. Free wireless (you may have to ask for it) and parking. Breakfast was fine.
