We were fortunate to stay at Campitino di Leonida for a week with our friends and it was a wonderful visit. The 2 villas are stunning. They are beautifully decorated, they have a wonderful collection of original artwork, and then there are the outdoor patios and the views...wow! You never get tired of spending time outside and enjoying all of the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the art, the pool and of course, the views! Set high on the hillside of a very small village, Leonida is on a working Olive oil farm which is quite cool. And it produces delicious olive oil! The owners have taken great pride in restoring these wonderful villas. We had a local pizza chef come in one night and make endless pizzas in one of two pizza ovens on the property...which was very cool! We also arranged with the owners to have a local chef come in on another night and prepare a gourmet meal for our group that was absolutely incredible! While the setting is somewhat remote as it is high in the hills, you are only a 20 minute drive from the town of Lucca. You are only an hour or so from Florence and so many other wonderful towns are just 30-60 minutes away...so its a great location for a Tuscany vacation. And I really enjoyed the drive up to and from the house. Its not every day you get to drive such a beautiful, winding road through Italy! On a side note, if you are staying here and want to go on a very interesting and unique tour, have them book the tour of the WWII Gothica Line with a local guide Carlo...you wont be disappointed. Our stay at Leondia was incredible and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic, peaceful setting in Tuscany.

We just returned from spending 11 days at this amazing Tuscan villa. We went with our 5 grandsons (ages 8-17), and their parents, so there were 10 of us. We started out with high expectations and our stay here far exceeded even those. The 2 houses are absolutely charming and beautifully decorated. The kitchen in each house is well equipped, but we used the one in the bottom house as the veranda off the kitchen has an outstanding view. Having washer and dryer to use was so helpful with such a large group and the game room was used by our grandsons often . The pool was a bit draw for all of us; it is about 4 to 4 1/2 feet deep so even our 8 year old grandson could stand up in it. There are big pool towels available and lots of lounge chairs.
It is difficult to describe in words the charm and feel of this villa as it is nestled in a small community with narrow lanes and buildings hundreds of years old in the hills overlooking small Tuscan villages. There is a small pizza restaurant a few minutes walk from the villa and just a stroll down the lane to the restaurant is enough to bring out many exclamations of delight and wonder.
The staff managing the villa is exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. Paola always made herself available and provided us with anything we needed. Jaqueline helped with directions and reservations responded as soon as we emailed or texted her. Jake was a delight and eager to help us with anything we wanted.
The drive up to the villa is not for the timid, as there are many switchbacks on a narrow road. Just use your horn often as you approach corners. Be sure to have a GPS in your car as that makes getting there a whole lot easier. The drive up to the house through the olive trees is a dirt road and very steep and winding and after several times driving it, my husband decided to park up near the pizza restaurant and walk down the lane to the villa. Our son and daughter-in-law had no trouble driving the dirt road up to the house. Just keep the car in first gear and keep going.
In summary, I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to stay if you have 10 or less people and want an amazing Tuscan experience in a villa located in a perfect location to visit many sights. I think we could have spent every day just hanging out at the villa and considered our trip well spent. As it is, we alternated hanging out at the villa with taking day trips to Florence, Cinque Terra, Pisa, Volterra, and Lucca. I highly recommend this villa, specially for families with children. Actually, for anyone!!!!
We rented Campitino di Leonida for the past week, and it simply could not have been more perfect! The two houses - Lucca and Leonida - are even lovelier than the pictures show.
The week began on Saturday when we were greeted in person by Paola, Jaquelin, and (I'm ashamed to say I've now forgotten his name...) a colleague who helped us get settled, including teaching us how to navigate the driveway (a thrilling ride!). Paola has been with the property for two decades and is a wealth of knowledge - she gave us a complete run down on how to operate the appliances, places for dinner, helping make reservations, questions about sites to visit, the extensive grounds and plants, and so much more. Her wonderful sense of humor and kindness made the trip seamless!
Jaquelin organized an incredible family meal for us on the beautiful terrace overlooking the hills surrounding Lucca. Chefs Gemma and Adelita created an incredible meal for our group, accommodating several food allergies and preferences. It was a highlight of the trip!
The gorgeous pool cannot be overstated
All in all, we didn't want to leave!
We were a group of 11, and we had plenty of room for every activity.
