San Giobanni is built over the remains of Santa Reparata - that makes it different and mysterious. The concerts of Puccini are played there every evening.

Unmissable experience when In Lucca my opinion. The weekly concert is delightful. The church itself is beautiful but the excavations below are a fascinating insight into Lucca's past. The tower is a relatively easy climb (102 steps, the last 10 or so being a static ladder) and well worth the effort to enjoy great views of the cathedral and Lucca itself.

On entering the crypt you are taking a journey into the past. Many artifacts relating to domestic and religion are a wonder to observe. It is a work in progress and what a work. Will surely return to marvel at this showroom of the past.A must see.

This is a magnificent church that is used as a concert hall. The crypt below the church is remarkable with Roman ruins. It is exceptional to see.
