“Magical! A wonderful place.”
Reviewed October 17, 2009

We arrived at Fabbrica di San Martino mid afternoon. Immediately we were greeted by the very helpful and friendly owner Giovanna and shown to our magnificent apartment overlooking the vineyards and olive groves set against a backdrop of the rolling Tuscan hillside. The "hotel" is a series of 3 apartments in the 17 century winery. It is still a working vineyard. The rooms are spacious, clean and charming. A plentiful breakfast is prepared and delivered to the room every morning. There is a kitchenette in 2 of the apartments and a full kitchen in another if you wish to self cater. The location of the villa is excellent if you are looking to be in the countryside amongst vineyards and restaurants and yet close to Lucca for sightseeing. The pool area is tranquil and there are plenty of pool lounges. When we were there we never had to share the pool area with any other guests. There are local restaurants nearby for dinner so there is no need to drive in to Lucca if you don't wish to. We would definitely return and cannot rate the friendliness of the owners highly enough.

We wanted a week of relaxation with our two year son - we stumbled across this place as it had apartments available for the dates we set and was an easy drive from Pisa airport. What a find. Lovely lovely people, welcomed our toddler with open arms. The views from the apartment were wonderful - you could see the sun rising from your bedroom window and in the evening you looked down on the twinkling lights of Lucca. We stayed in the main 'villa' on the first night as we arrived on a friday and not the intended change over day of saturday. After a delayed flight, restling rush hour Lucca traffic and the protests of a tired 2 year old we were met with a sweeping driveway, lined with olive trees, leading up to a huge house with the most stunning reception area, it was like walking into an art gallery. The ever so friendly Giovanna showed us to our bed and breakfast accomodation...wow, two large and airy double bedrooms, bathroom and large dining/reading area flanked with floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with art and travel books. In the morning we awoke to find the dining table filled with cheeses, fresh fruit, flowers, coffee, juice etc. My son ate like a king!
we were then shown to our apartment on the top floor of the farmers cottage - its a very large apartment which ususally sleeps 10 but in the winter months it is split into 3 seperate apartments (plus another large one downstairs - which would be great if you have children as there are no steps and it has large pation doors leading to a lawned area) I was worried about how the apartment would be split up - privacy etc - but it was great - very large - wonderful large sitting room and cooking area and two double bedrooms and a bathroom. I'm sure the people in the adjoining rooms could hear our toddler through the walls... but we had no complaints. There are donkeys and cattle on site which was great for keeping children occupied plus a large swimming pool (enclosed) and lots of grassy areas (undulating landscape) the 'cantina' was downstairs and Guiseppe would explain what he was doing with a friendly smile. Overall a real find if you want somewhere relaxing - practicallity wise, near Pisa airport, only 5k from Lucca, english, french, spanish and italian speaking owners, clean bathrooms, large bedrooms, far reaching views, relaxing, reasonably priced for the standard, supermarket 5 min drive.

Charming owners, and very helpful, as a matter of fact
we got lost in our way to the hotel, and finally we had
to call the owners, and they went to pick us up on the country road
Its not easy to find and at night its very difficult., but
once you are there, its very nice and comfortable.
They will bring your breakfast to your apartment, in the
morning, and it was delicious.

Found Fabbrica di Dan Martino through the Lucca tourism office. The owners were the kindest, most accomodating people I have ever met. They make great wines and olive oils in addition to soaps and beauty products.

The accomodations were spacious with beautiful views of the country side. Huge sitting area in addition to a nice sized bedroom and bathroom - best shower I had in Italy!h
