Stayed at hotel Rex for 3 nights again, as always friendly welcome from all the staff, Hotel location is perfect for Lucca and the train station next to hotel for any other travel you may wish to do, clean and tidy hotel with excellent breakfast
Breakfast was amazing, well stocked buffet with quality food. Everyone was so nice. We were even locked in our hallway at night from the inside. I felt super safe. The location was excellent as well, right outside the city walls of Lucca and next to the train station. Sometimes the train station area of a city is sketchy, but not here. Rooms are decorated in an eccentric style, but very clean.
Unrivalled hospitality. The staff ( I suspect a family) were so kind and warm, helpful in every way. Attention went in the smallest detail. Although I've no kids myself, I loved that they had games and toys available in a designated area for a range or ages. No one wants to drag that stuff on a vacation. Breakfast was probably the best of the 3 places I stayed in Tuscany on this trip. Most of Italy was still bundled up as if it was winter so the AC was not in, which I thought would be a problem considering the place is close to the station and a main road. No bother. Also, the only place that had a kettle and selection of coffee/tea for morning. This was a major perk. The only drawback for me was the amount of soft furnishings in the room. I loved there were no carpets. But there was a fair amount of fabric, table runners and the like, as well as items intended to make the room homey. These were all quite clean (I checked), I just like things a bit more simple. I'll definitely go back to Hotel Rex when I'm next in Lucca.
Cleqn, comfortable, nice staff, good value, right beside the train station in lucca, views from the Windows are terrible but the hotel can't be blamed for that, and the decor is horrendous...but its clean, well run and very accommodating and staff are super nice and helpful so it gets a thumbs up from me!
We stopped in Lucca on the way to Florence to tour the city. We arrived about 6pm with no hotel reservation. We went to Hotel Rex based on the Trip Advisor ratings. The service, room, and value are outstanding. The hotel manager noticed it was my girlfriend's birthday and sent champagne to the room while we were at dinner. He speaks fluent English and provided outstanding dinner recommendations. The hotel is older but impeccably maintained with solid traditional furniture mixed with modern conveniences. The craftsmanship quality is first rate.
