Just got back last night from a 2 week stay at this amazing Tuscan Villa. We celebrated our 40 and 50 birthdays there with family and friends. It was amazing. The trip had been 1 year in the making and all our expectations were filled and beyond so too. The staff was sweet and extremely helpful and forthcoming! We just really loved it all. Fabric covered walls, beautiful grounds, peaceful surroundings, views that will take your breath away. I am at loss for words. I would come back in a heartbeat! We all already long for the days we spent at this gorgeous villa.

Stunning looking from the outside and nice grounds to walk around. The smallest lifts known to man, intersting sculptures and clearly was once a very impressive place with some original features to see. However the rooms were covered in vulgar stained fabric, showed photos to family when I got back who laughed heartily! Although the place was cleaned well, it was old and tatty and I tried not to touch anything.
There are only 2 outside tables in the bar area and so was actually difficult to sit outside one night. We went to the front of the hotel to the only other tables we knew of at the restaurant tables and the staff were really quite put out that we just wanted to sit outside for 10 minutes, even though it was practically empty and they had stopped serving.
In fact the table service was slow at best, and if you miss lunch by 10 minutes you have the worst ham and cheese sandwhich you would expect from a petrol station. Some didn't speak English at all and never smiled or said Hi when you went for breakfast. The reception staff weren't too bad although I wouldn't stretch to welcoming.
There was a little water feature in the driveway which had a few poor goldfish swimming in dirty unaired water without even a twig to swim around, felt very cruel!
On the plus side its easy to find with plenty of parking and in a good location a few minutes drive from Lucca. Don't think I could recomend it.

Have just spent four nights at the Villa La Principessa, and would happily go there again. If staying in a standard double, try and avoid Room 144 (unless you really like yellow check pattern over everything), but we moved to the Annexe and the room there was much nicer and had a view of the garden for the same price. The lounges on the ground floor have massive comfy sofas and chairs and breakfast and dinner are served out in the garden when the weather is suitable. The swimming pool is large - probably not child-friendly as even the shallow end is almost two metres deep. Loads of parking as well. There were people there from England, America, Holland, Belgium, Italy, so an international mix! Very good value by booking direct with the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the 4th florr - they're converted attic rooms, with no views and decorated in...

There is actually nothing I could complain about when it comes to my experience of La Principessa. The location is great, the gardens and the pool are stunning, I am definitely going back. The staff is kind and helpful, breakfast is very good, the rooms are clean, tidy and the furnishing is really nice, the views are breathtaking. I'm not sure if there is lunch or dinner service available but there are some very good restaurants nearby.

We appreciate very much your very affectionate thought regarding the experience at La
Principessa.

We are happy that you appreciated the location of the villa, the gardens and the pool.

Our guests can enjoy meals at the restaurant open for lunch (garden by the the pool) and dinner (in the park in the summer time)

We look forward to welcoming you again to add a chapter to your fairytale.

a wonderful old villa with wonderful atmosphere in the palatial rooms. Yes, in parts it was a tad shabby but the friendly welcoming and efficient staff were far more important. The decor is eclectic in parts but very striking. Our bedroom walls were covered in fabric as were the sitting room and other rooms. The evening meal we had was good, again with excellent service. Breakfast was more than generous with a huge choice and again attentive service. The linen was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. It is about 15 minute's drive from Lucca, also close to Pisa and easy to reach Florence. This hotel more than met our expectations and we would recommend it.

Stayed for a week from 5th August 2012. Staff were very helpful and the building and grounds were beautiful. Ideal for a quiet break and very central for touring the Tuscany area.
Food was excellent. My only criticism would be that it was a bit too quiet, never anyone around if you just wanted a nice glass of wine and a chat, but I assume that their main clientele do not want this???

Beautiful hotel in a perfect setting to enjoy Lucca. We said "Wow" when we pulled up the driveway and continued to wow our way around this beautiful, character filled villa just outside Lucca. The pool is perfect, the gardens pretty, the rooms huge and totally fabulous and the common areas such as the wonderful sitting room just can't be beat. 3m high ceilings with wood beams and wonderful silk wall coverings - each room is different. The children had a fresco on their wall on the first floor but we had a vast balcony on our 2nd floor room. The food was great and the service excellent. The only problem was we were having such a nice time it was hard to drag ourselves away to explore Lucca!

Room Tip: I liked the high ceilings and balcony of our 2nd floor room but the children loved the fresco on the...
