Our Danish neighbours at Villa Rosselmini (se separate review) had already given is an excellent tip, so when they told us about their experience at Da Pasquale, we had to go. Problem was, Friday was our last night in the area, and nobody was answering the phone for our booking attempts! At around 18:00 we got throu, and the lady who answered wasn't sur efi there was any availability, and asked us to call back in half an our. Thats where things got interesting. My mobile phone rang, and Pasqualino himself had rung me back ! Bear in mind, I was calling from a Norwegian mobile, this was above and beyond. Unfortunately, all tables were booked. We resigned ourself to an ordinary meal elsewhere. The half an hour later, Pasqualino Called back AGAIN. he had just received a cancellation, and if it wasn't too late for us, the table was ours. A 25 minute drive later, we arrived. The restaurant now also has outside tables (personally I feel the inside has more atmosphere, but outside is fine too). When the proprietor calls, then settles you in to your table, then revisits I four or five times during the evening - when the restaurant is full - then even if all else is mediocre I would still rate relatively high. When the wine is exceptional (including a limited bottling of 3500 which he was trying, and then 'so should you' and free of charge). When the dessert wine is brought to the table, in-ordered, the you look forward to the bill with some trepidation. Not here, ordered is ordered, anything else does not appear on the bill. Now the food....we decided to forego the antipasti and stick with pasta (ravioli with scallop filling, Ravioli with porcini mushroom ragu, and pasta with rabbit) - all three of us loved it, and there was much shopping of forks. Three of us ordered the Angus in balsamico with strawberries - and that's what we got. No salad or vegetable matter in sight or on offer, but somehow it was right. My son had sliced fillet steak with truffle and mushrooms and was equally impressed. That should have been that, but we couldn't bring ourselves to leave without the taster selection dessert, and orders three between the four of us. WOW. Enough said. We rounded off with espresso macchiato and drove home replete and in awe.. After a total cheque of 140 euros for all four. Often TA ratings are way above what's deserved, but the general ratings here are spot on. Pasqualino obviously loves his job, his wine, his food, and apparently his customers. Top it all off with wines by the glass in addition to an excellent by the bottle selection, and you have it all. Top stuff. Loved it. Will go back. And thanks to our Danish friends for the rec !!
