“SICILIAN/TUSCAN FUSION”
Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

We live in Lucca and wanted to try at least ten meals before giving our opinion.
We believe the success of this place is due to the combination of a very imaginative and talented sicilian chef and Pasqualino's wine knowledge plus his friendly, multilingual, attitude towards the customers.
The starters are usually five small original examples of culinary art, the pastas are often unusual, tasty and cooked to perfection, main courses good... if you can still make it!
We very much appreciate Pasqualino's approach to wine: he offers great wines, often from small sicilian producers, at a very reasonable price helping to keep the overall price reasonable.
We only hope that his formula will last over time.
Higly recommended if you like to experiment, if you just want spaghetti bolognese and a steak go somewhere else.

“Amazing starters, service, wines, value and passion”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

Pasquale is a fantastic host. His passion for food is palpable and he is just a nice, friendly man that can't help but describe the ingredients of each dish and the quality of the many ingredients.
We were blown away by the taste sensations of the six course starter tasting option- and at the cheap price if was triply sensational. The wines were excellent and complemented the meals and were cheap. Make sure you book.

“Starters Average, Mains Excellent”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Book in advance!

Forget the starters, go straight to mains. We arrived here and were welcomed by Pasquale himself. The hospitality was very warm and Italian and as soon as we sat we were brought out an amuse bouche, created for the night, which came out with a bread basket and 2 types of award winning olive oil.

Onto the starters, we ordered the chef’s selection and received 5 different ones each. We had mixed feelings here which confirmed our original theory on Italian food in Italy: the quality of ingredients is so good that there isn’t much thought in adding flavor enhancers, and I don’t mean anything dodgy, I mean something as simple as salt and pepper, so flavour and texture combinations were a bit too bland.

By this point, we weren't too excited about what was to arrive, but we were wrong….out came the mains and homemade pastas! Not only were these dishes excellent, but they were so good that all that initial blandness was made void… It was almost like a completely new restaurant. The truffle big tagliatelle was impeccable and the special on the menu, wild boar with a type of homemade Sicilian pasta I’d never seen before was to die for!

As for desert we had a selection of Sicilian sweet bites, which were nice, though the majority was a combination of ricotta and chocolate, so not much innovation, just a lot of quantity.

Coffee after desert was lovely!

“Innovative Sicilian/Tuscan cuisine, great wines, enthusiastic service”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

A lovely meal with local friends in this relatively new Lucca spot.
Two small quite plain rooms, both equally attractive, are divided by the obviously talented kitchen.
Highlight was the chef's antipasti - including balls of rabbit in a light tomato sauce and a ricotta mousse topped with marinaded prawns - while our main course fish (new to us - ombrina) was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a caper sauce.
The wine choice is exceptional, with choice from not just Italy but also France and the new world.
Service (from the owner) can be summed up in one word - passion!
This is not a "typical" Tuscan restaurant so may not be for everyone, but most certainly was for us.
