We stayed 3 nights and wish it could have been longer. This was our first destination after arriving in Florence and it could not have hoped for a better choice .Took a bus from the airport for about 6 Euro each, a lot less expensive than a train and very scenic. Hotel Alexander was no more than 7 minute walk from the bus station inside the walls which is very convenient but located in a charming ,quaint area of Lucca. Mario could not have been more accommodating. We checked in early and he did his best to have our rooms prepared quickly. Our family suite was two spacious connecting rooms with comfortable beds, private baths in each, and a nice view of street activity below. Mario and his son Gabriel made us feel very much at home in every way. They spoke perfect English, however are fluent in several other languages as well. Breakfast variety was great and they went out of their way offering to bring our daughter hot chocolate milk. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience here and hope to return one day soon. Gratzie Millie Mario!

Room Tip: Connecting family suite on 2nd floor. King bed in one room with large bright bathroom. Separate room...

We booked one night here at the end of our visit to Tuscany. The rest of the time we stayed in an appartment in Florence. The Hotel is very near the bus station - an easy walk even with luggage, and the bus is a great way to travel to and from Lucca.

This is a family run hotel and clearly the passion of the owner. He made an instant connection with us by asking about our travels and sharing his recent problems with transport to and from our local airport (Stansted). He made sure our stay in Lucca was successful.

The room - a triple high up in the buildng - was just beautiful. I would love to stay here longer.

Breakfast was relaxed and enjoyable.

Stayed here for six nights during our trip to Italy. Took a taxi from the train station, just ten minutes journey. Arrived a little early and was welcomed from the minute our taxi arrived, cases taken into the beautiful reception area. Lovely small hotel which we prefer, more personal and the owner Mario obviously knows the business well and is a font of knowledge of the area. The bed was really comfy, the best we had during our tip. Our corner room had two windows but we didn't hear noise from the street. We loved the location - a little bit out of the main centre but means there's a lot less noise. Everything in Lucca is walkable and can quite understand how people get hooked on this lovely small town. The breakfast area is really ornate and one corner of the room has a wall that has been exposed which dates from 200 bc - just amazing!
One slight criticism is that the bathroom is quite dark, difficult for the ladies and their makeup and we did find it a little difficult regulating the temperature of the water. That said we would definately return to Palazzo Alexander if we were ever in Lucca again. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

The staff was wonderful. Every day before breakfast we discussed where we were going - what we planned to see. We always received suggestions and tips which really helped to make our trip memorial. The room was very nice, the breakfast buffet wonderful, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for two nights - and loved it. All the staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and the bed wonderful. The central heating goes on in the mornings, so the bathroom get nicely heated by the towell rack. The building in itself is very charming, and the whole hotel is decorated accordingly. The breakfast room is cosy and the food nice. Free WIFI and CNN on the TV helps you keep updated.
The only thing which is not so good is the water pressure - and the fact that the plumbing do make some noise.
Location is good - just 5 min walk from the bus station, where you can get a bus directly to Pisa airport (very cheap!!!). Hotel is just a few blocks away from one of the central squares of town.

Fantastic town, fantastic owners, and a fantastic stay.
This is my third time staying within Lucca's walls, each at Palazzo Alexander, spanning 12 years time. We stayed for three nights and had a full Italian breakfast each morning, followed by walking and shopping and eating and more eating. Lucca is a great town to relax in and I highly suggest it out of all the many gems in Tuscany. Palazzo Alexander always makes our stay special and Mario really cares to get to know his visitors. There is nothing he cannot help you with.

We stayed at this hotel during our one day visit to Lucca. 10 minutes by cab from the train station in a small and quite street. Upon arrival we've been told that our room has been upgraded to a suite on the top floor. What a room! Though we prefer modern style, this room fitted perfectly to the soul of the place. Very cosy and warm as well. Next morning we were waked up by the birds singing outside! Breakfast simple but perfectly sufficient, served on the ground floor. All in all very warm place and I mean not the room temperature :) Especially we appreciate the help at the reception with the restaurant on the arrival evening and the midnight tea served at our request when we came back from the town walk.

Room Tip: Suite on the top floor is marvelous
