What can I say about Lucca except I didn't want to leave. It is a beautiful walled city, easy walking, great restaurants and a wonderful place to soak up Italian life. The hotel is delightful and down an alley.. Unfortunately we didn't see much of the main hotel as we were assigned to their annex Albergo Diana. Our room was very large with an extra twin bed where we were able to spread out our suitcases which was a real bonus. Refrigerator and wifi were a great addition. There wasn't an elevator in the annex but they took our suitcases up to our room. I'm sure they would have helped us take them back down the 3 flights when we left but it was early and my husband dragged them down himself.

The location was great, a block around the corner to a beautiful square with lots of activities and restaurants. Very quiet and easy access to everything. Breakfat was good but served from 8:00am. Two of the days we missed it because we had to leave earlier than 8:00am. I would definitely stay here again but would see if there was something in the main hotel.

Stayed at the annexe of this hotel for one night. The hotel proper looked very good and welcoming. The annexe called Diana looked as though it had had a recent makeover - vivid colours, very good lighting and bathroom but not much character. There is a large brightly lit drinks machine plonked in the middle of the corridor which seemed out of place. Location very good. We paid 50 euros each for 2 separate rooms but breakfast was not included. Had begun to welcome non inclusive breakfasts as they have mostly been a bit dire. The annexe is functional and unwelcoming. Very quiet and served its purpose as a bed for the night.

I stayed in this charming place for just one night and was given an excellent room with great bathroom. Very helpful staff, a great breakfast and a lovely position made me wish I was staying for longer!

I had to check again the pictures, but yes, we were in the same hotel, with other reviewers, but our oppinion differs. Yes, it was an OK hotel, nothing serious problem happened, but we were not amazed. Room is small, and due to window-shutters a bit dark. Bathroom is small too, and a refurbishing would be necessary. For us it was strange that the towels had smell of vinegar, maybe it is used to disinfect those.
Walls are paper thin.. every morning, when someone woke up and left their room, we heard (well) shutting doors, saying bongiorno to someone, chatting a few. Small rooms, close to each others, so sleeping is not easy.
Breakfast was again OK, but the variety of cold cuts, cheese was poor. It is suprise for me in the summer (when it is the season of vegetables) not offering tomato or cucumber to breakfast. Sweets you could find.
Parking is a problem, but not just here in Lucca, at all cities with walls, and historic centres of course. The staff helped us to approach the hotel, you have to enter the city at Porta San Pietro, and watch out, avoid limited traffic zones, because you'll get fined. We parked outside the wall, but close the the Porta, there for the whole day you pay 6 EURs for parking. (Inside it's 15 EURs). The hotel has own parking slots, so that can be a solution of course.
Staff was friendly, so they answered all questions, and were helpful.

We spent 2 nights in Lucca at this great hotel, which was convenient to train station (we walked the half mile, but suggest you enter via the western gate as the slightly closer easter gate directly across from the train station winds you through unlit 100 foot passage that's a bit creepy). Hotel staff recommended good restaurants and bike rentals. The hotel is on south side of town, away from hustle and bustle. Great hole in the wall sandwich shop - Il Pan di Strada - just a few blocks away on Corso Garibaldi where you can get homemade bread and perfect proscuitto/mozarella for a few euro. My wife and I split one.
Hotel is very clean and has nice outside terrace where you can have drinks, play games, read, etc. Air conditioning worked fine and welcomed due to extreme heat wave (95+). Lucca shade helps and temps drop at sunset. Room was very clean, but may be a bit small for some. The bathroom was particularly small - while it worked for us, we had to sit at angles to avoid shower which was inches from toilet. We are not tall people, so not a major issue for us, but anyone over 6ft may want to confirm "fit."
Hotel is on alley, but we felt comfortable walking alley, which quickly connects to tourist attractions and restaurants. We skipped breakfast, having lighter meal (pastry and coffee) at nearby (and inexpensive) Garibaldi cafes.
All in all, a great stay and highly recommend, but taller people should request room with more "legroom in the bathroom."

A fabulous hotel - great location, amazing staff, wonderful breakfast... great value for money. We stayed in the dislocated building (just around the corner of the hotel), the room was very charming and clean. It was also relatively peaceful and quiet, considering the great centre location. If you're travelling by car, mentally prepare yourself to drive through some quite narrow streets to get to the parking space (a bit of a challenge when travelling with a big car), but the staff helped us tremendeously. Will definitely stay here again if travelling to Lucca!

I never thought there was a great location that I would find uncomfortable because of location. This Alberg is so close to the Summer Music Festival, that you can actually feel the music in the walls. Great normally, but if you do not like heavy metal, you need to evacuate until the musical tide recedes. For all other moments, let the band play on and you need not actually attend the concerts. Otherwise this is a clean, friendly , artistically designed and helpful residence in a lovely quiet town. Most rooms are well appointed, ours was unfortunately too small with a lieu that challenged normal ergonomics. You had to commit to one position in the shower at a time. FIrst front and then back. On the toilet you had to master the off centre seating technique. Strange how a few degrees changes a whole experience. But that is life isn't it?

. Ours unfortunately had a lieu that was miniscule

Room Tip: check out size and whether in main or annex
