Clearly proof that if you want good food in Italy, go a step away from the main piazza into somewhere that looks shut. If you try Vineria I Santi you will not be disappointed with the high quality ingredients - I even got excited by the spring onions. The wine list is good too, wielded by a chap who knows what he is doing. The only downside was getting past the waitress who was at best inattentive, at worst a bulldog slurping on a wasp. We were there for lunch, maybe she has warmed up by evening service. However, when we said we'd been there to a local friend, his response was "ah yes, good place but stroppy"

My husband and I just returned from Lucca and had the best meal at I Santi! It was the best meal we had in all of Lucca. The atmosphere of the restaurant was charming and the food was fresh and different then the other restaurants we had dinner at. The Pesto has to be the best in all of Italy! The service was perfect, not too attentive and didn't leave us alone for too long without checking in. The prices are very reasonable and absolutely fair. I am only sorry we did not go back our last night instead of where we went, cause our meal was not half as good! Thank you I Santi for a very memorable evening.

Visited this little restaurant hidden in Lucca and we were treated to a fantastic meal.
Unlike the majority of restaurants there was some invention on the menu with beef tartare, a fantastic take on Caprese and delicious wine by the glass.
Great food reasonably priced. (around 45 Euros pp inc. wine)

We visited this place twice while in Lucca. The first time for a bottle of wine, which was excellent. The choice of wine here is wide and very high quality, which I believe is where I Santi has built it's reputation. Whilst enjoying our wine we saw some food come out (specifically the mozzerella) which looked amazing, so we decided to visit again another time.

The food on the second visit lived up to our expectations. The mozzerella was indeed amazing, the freshest, creamiest and tastiest we had in Lucca. We also had steak tatare and roast pork with rosemary, washed down with another great bottle of wine - which was all delightful. The wine was chosen by Leonardo (manager/head waiter) who clearly knows his wine.

All in all - defintely worth a visit if you are in Lucca and like you food and wine!

We had read some good reviews... and it was close by as we were finishing up the morning half of our touring around Lucca. It was hot... but we managed to get a shaded outside seating.

We decided to go a little light on lunch... and went for two standards that we often have at home... tuna & beans and chicken caesar salad. Sounds simple... but they took both dishes to a higher level than what we get home. The tuna was blended with olive oil... the beans super creamy... with a nice blend of fresh tomatoes and onion. Then came the salad... with flavorful poached chicken, fried dough pieces, croutons, shaved parmesan, homemade dressing... AND the best bacon we've ever had. We washed it all down with a nice local white.

And a quiet setting... away from the crowds.
