If you want pizza, especially an afternoon or evening snack, this is the place. A very good selection of pizzas, very fresh, very original. Easy to find: Just exit the San Pietro gate, cross the busy street at the light, and there you are. Also, the owner's photographs on the wall are very professional and worth a look...be sure to look at his cat photo.

I can see why this place gets such a high rating. It's geared for take-out, though there are some stools and tables, though no one was eating in when I was there. The quality of the pizza is superb. I notice that many of the five-star restaurants on Tripadvisor are the expensive, upscale places, but I think five stars should go to places that, whatever they do, they do perfectly. And that's La Tana dell'Orco: perfect pizza.

We went there for a late dinner (it was 10pm) during our two nights stay in Lucca in March 2012.

We were the only ones in the restaurant at that time. The pizzas there are fantastic, thin crusted, with fresh ingredients and they are served right out of the pizza oven. I had a delicious calzone.

The menu is in Italian but the service is attentive and very nice, and do not mind spending time with costumers translating it into English. Finally, the prices are very good (€21 for two beers and two pizzas). I will definitely come back during my next visit to Lucca!

I arrived in Lucca on a cold February and decided to check this place out after seeing it on Trip Advisor. It was a great little place, the Pizza was wonderful! The family running the place are very nice, friendly and willing to help with any questions you have about Lucca. I was even able to leave my luggage there for the day. I'm not sure if that's the normal rule, but they were very helpful and courteous. They make their own pasta and they even grow their own yeast for their pizza! Pretty cool.

From the Train station you take a left onto Via Regina Margherita and it will be on the left. If you get to the statue, you've gone too far.

Had to stop in Lucca for a short business trip. Stumbled across 50 Panini, and LOVED it. Had a ravioli type dish that was local that was the best food I'd had in Italy yet. Quick service, spoke english, very helpful staff. It small, so don't plan on bringing a family of 6, but other than that, eat here.
