“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

We reserved a room at least six months prior to our arrive. During that time we communicated with Roberta who was most helpful to us. She even helped us get to Casa Paolina from the airport in Florence in the most relaxing manner possible so we could begin our vacation as soon as possible without any hassle. We found our room clean and comfortable for 3 adults. Roberta and Martina continued to be helpful and did all they could do to make our stay memorable. We stayed in another location in Lucca 5 years ago and would never stay there again but will stay in Casa Paolina when we return to Lucca. In contrast to Casa Paolina, we stayed in an apartment in Firenze when we left Lucca with no one on site at all and no more than 2 minutes of hot water in the 5 days we were there. The apartment was not even close to being big enough for 3 adults even though it advertised at sleeping 4. The location of Casa Palina is great, Lucca is great. Many wonderful places to eat. Nice, friendly people. Our stay exceeded our expectations.

Room Tip: Make the reservations soon enough to e-mail Roberta to discuss which room might be good for you base...

I stayed here in La Boheme apartment in September for 1 night. I was unhappy with several aspects of my accomadation. The photos on the web site show lovely soft furnishings and state that they are from high end retailers. Not true. Most of what I saw came from ikea. - no offence to Ikea- there were no nice duvet covers on the bed just a bare duvet with a sheet with no cover! We arrived in the afternoon and went exploring lovely Lucca. When we returned it was dark and I discover just one bulb working in the elaborate ceiling bedroom light and the lamp only working on one bedside light.
Annoying but not the end of the world. I got up the next morning to take a shower before heading to the airport to discover that there was NO HOT WATER....... and no one at reception. When we checked out at 10 there was a woman at the reception. I explained the problem and she insisted I accompany her to the apartment so she could check!!! She tried a number of taps, electrical things, boiler as if this should make me feel better. I explained I had a flight to catch and with a grin and a shrug of the shoulders she said " these things happen". At the rates they charge they most definatly shouldn't . I emailed a complaint to the web site and that wasn't even acknowledged.
It's a good thing Lucca is so nice because I definatly wouldn't be returning to Casa Paolina. They don't know how to treat their customers.

One of our party had no hot water and because staff man the reception desk only for a few hours a day there was no one to contact for help. When we reported this to staff the following morning they were completely unhelpful. This spoiled our stay. It is unfortunate because the location was great - very central but surprisingly quiet. The apartments were spacious and pleasant. However,
I would not recommend this hotel because other visitors have had similar experiences.

We stayed in beautiful Lucca at Casa Paolina for 6 nights. There quite a few positives about this apartment. The location was perfect. Inside the walls but easy walking distance to train station. The apartment was spacious and clean with a small terrace with partial view of the square. The bath was very nice with a rainfall shower. I was a little disappointed with the apartment we were given. All of the other apartments seemed larger and more nicely furnished. Our apartment was devoid of any charm with furniture that appeared to be from IKEA. The beds and bedding were not very comfortable and air conditioning was inconsistent. I've traveled to Italy every year for 20 years so I generally know what to expect. There was only an instant coffee maker in the kitchen so we had to buy a little espresso pot. If there was a "good" rating I would have rated it as such but the negatives prevent me from giving this a "Very Good" so going with "Average". If location and cleanliness are most important to you, this would be a good choice but personally I like a little more Italian charm. I would suggest you ask specifically what apartment you will be given at time of booking. For the price, we could have chosen one of several smaller hotels or B&Bs that would have provided more amenities.

This apartment is in at excellent location. Seated in the heart of the city, you can walk around Lucca in the night. The parking is expensive inside the walls, but you can park your car in a parking lot (which is a bit expensive, but guarded) or you can park at the train station, which is a 4 minuets walk away from the accommodation. As it is the center, it could be noisy in the evening, but not disturbingly. The only downside, was that they left the dishes in the dishwasher, and the previous guests' food was still in the cupboard. But the flat was huge, you were able to sit in the terrace watching the people in the streets.

Charming room facing the little square at the side of the lodgings. From our balcony we could watch the passagiata of locals and tourists going about their day on foot or by bike. Immaculately clean and well appointed, easily accessible by foot from the station. Great location for buying daily supplies easily or walking out to restaurants.
Loved Lucca itself, music everywhere, great food, bike hire and the very kind people. Don't miss the opera in the cathedral while you are there in the home of Puccini.
We had one small glitch that was partly our naivity. We were required to pay a deposit to the owner soon after making the reservation but on arrival reception had no record of that from the owner so we had to pay the full amount. They would not contact the owner as they had never heard of such an arrangement. Our email receipt was not taken as evidence. That could be avoided by using the lodging's own booking service or an agency like TA or booking.com.
It wouldn't stop me returning there. Great place.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room. They all face the dear little square.

I highly recommend these spacious, modern apartments. We travelled as a family of three and really appreciated the space our apartment provided. The location could not have been better.
The only aspect I would I would improve would be the kitchen facilities but this all depends on how much cooking you intend to do.Well worth booking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air conditioning which works. We asked for a room with a balcony overlooking...
