We booked this restaurant months in advance based on reviews on TA. We found it quite difficult to locate but were so glad we persevered. It turned out to be the best meal of our honeymoon, no mean feat when you consider the amazing meals we had during our 3.5week trip. The villa is delightful, set in wonderful countryside in a little village outside of Lucca. It looks deserted. We park, walk through the gardens to the back and tentatively walk inside. We figure out the restaurant must be upstairs. We enter the room and are greeted by Marco, the owner. The room is cosy. We are the only customers. Marco soon hits his stride, we are charmed and enchanted by his personality and love of food and wine. We chat about Australia - where we had lived for 25 years and he had lived for a number of years too - we chat about food, chefs, restaurants, life in general. A few more people wander in. We opt for the degustation entree - an inspired choice it turns out - mushroom bouillon - absolutely sublime!! polenta with cheese and truffle, a mousse of capsicum, polpete, cold cuts of sausage, olives, the best home made bread. I had the main course of tordelini lucchese - bloody brilliant, again inspired. My husband had the fried chicken and rabbit which was nice but a little dry. We had wild boar with grilled polenta. We shared the most amazing catalan carmel with a creamy custard in another bowl - wow!!!! Didn't want the night to end. Such a very reasonable price. Do yourselves a favour, go there.
