“country setting close to the city.... Excellent Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

Staying at Villa Cheli was terrific... hospitality by the staff was excellent and very accommodating to our group of 10. restaurant food was also excellent and a bonus since it was on site. Rooms were nice size for being such an old structure.. and everything was clean and neat. Good value on top of all that.

Room Tip: The view rooms out the back overlooking the pool seemd to be best..

This was the second trip for us. We were on a tennis holiday and on the first evening we met up with another couple and two singles, but it was only after the sitting downto the meal did we realise they were English and that we were on the same holiday together. We were all eating at the restaurant enjoying the great food and local wine and the week stay went on in a similar vein. The food was as good as anything we found in Lucca. The house wine was excellent value and the more expensive wines were brilliant and were no were near UK prices.
The staff were all friendly and some exceptionally so. It felt like a home from home. It never felt like a hotel where you had to mind yourself unduly as it was so relaxed.
The pool is a wonderful place to relax with its setting against a wooded Tuscan hill.
There is no lunch, but this is a cafe at the end of the driveway.
We found the breakfast was a standard European fare.
Last year we had a room at the front, this year it was at the back and both were exactly what we wanted for a setting in Tuscany. Tiled floors and wooden beams.A large bed, well set in a spacious room with good storage, The bathroom had shower, basin, toilet and bidet. Just enough space allocated to it. Daily change of toiletries. The rooms had great views. It was kept clean and tidy.
You do need a car. Lucca is 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: WE were happy with the rooms on the second floor front and back.

I stayed here with a friend as the last leg of our trip through Tuscany. We were lucky this was our last stop, because it offers the perfect combination of exploring the area and some leisure time at the hotel.
The hotel is outside Lucca, so you need to be by car to get to and from the hotel. Driving up the path to the hotel you get a spectacular look at the hotel.
The staff was very friendly. We were too early, but were offered a towel to stay at the pool and when the room was ready the key was delivered to me at the poolside!
We got the large room in front of the hotel. It's the only room with a balcony and it has a very nice view of the hills in front of the hotel. I spent some time sitting there reading a book and looking at the view. Very relaxing.
The room itself was very big (it's the biggest one in the hotel) and even has a bubble bath!
As said this hotel was the last stop on our trip and we were more exhausted than expected, so discovering the pool area was a surprise. We hadn't planned to use it, but the area is very nice, quiet and lots of chairs and umbrella's. We ended up spending every afternoon by the pool.
The breakfast was nice, but to my surprise the coffee was in a pot. If you want cappuccino or some other special coffee you need to order at the bar. A missed opportunity. After all Italy is known for its good coffee and not being able to start the day was a bit disappointing.
But aside from that, we really enjoyed our stay here and would book again if we went back to Lucca!

The best thing about this hotel is the pool and the scenery. The location is good as it's close to Lucca & Pisa. On the negative side;

- Staff not overly helpful.

- We stayed in one of the apartments, it had a kitchen with no utensils, saucepans, crockery, cutlery or tea/coffee making facilities.

- The apartments are quite dingy & dark, you need a to have the lights on all the time.

- Breakfast was terrible - stale croissants and pastries everyday!

Room Tip: Would not recommend staying in the apartments

Spent a week a villa cheli with tuscan tennis holidays. What a lovely hotel. It has the feel of staying in a private home, but with all the comforts of a great hotel. The practicalities... Rooms are fully air conditioned, very tuscan (tiled floors, beamed ceilings etc). My room had a shower room, toiletries, built in hair dryer etc. good linen, immaculately clean. The breakfast was a good buffet. A real bonus was the restaurant (evening only) which is set up outside in the courtyard each evening. Food was excellent. Best thing about the hotel was the staff. Friendly, helpful, completely lovely. Great pool, and a stunning setting. About 10 mins by car from lucca. Another bonus is the ice cream coffee and cake shop at the end of the drive....!

Room Tip: Apparently rooms on the top floor have skylight windows so ask for one with normal windows.

A beautiful country villa reached via a long drive and surrounded by olive trees and cypressa (hope that's right). Lovely large rooms with old/antique furniture, comfortable beds and ensuite shower rooms.

Great staff and a lovely simple swimming pool that never seems to get crowded.

Breakfast is good, but lacks in healthy options, other than a few apples and the occasional Kiwi fruit. Definitely not a dieters delight.

Resident cat with a few friendly dogs roaming about.

No modern amenities . . everything in keeping with the age of the villa. No tea or coffee facilities in the room, but fridge supplied. Rubbish hairdryer, so take your own if you take pride in your appearance/hair.

Across the very busy/dangerous road is a cafe/galateria - Perla, which provides cold, hot and alcoholic beverages.

Lovely.

Last year we stayed in the separate building. This year we were in the main building and we think our room was more comfortable and modern in comparison. This is a quiet hotel, it has a nice pool area (and 2 resident cats and a dog). The staff have always been pleasant and helpful. The breakfast supplied is adequate, nothing too exciting.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hello everybody! I am the owner of Hotel Ristorante Villa Cheli and my name is Vincent. Today I decided to write a review to tell a little bit of our house .. Villa Cheli is a colonial villa built in 1700 , formerly owned by the family Cheli . The last owner was a sculptor , a sculptor of chalk. During the restoration , in fact , we found some of his works in the attic .. And we thought .. Why not share it with our guests ? Coming to visit us in fact you can admire them within the walls (internal and external ) of the Villa .. A bit ' as we were in a museum. The hotel rooms are located on three floors .. The first floor, the main floor of the Villa, are situated the suite and two rooms overlooking the balcony .. The second floor rooms with large windows and high ceilings on the third floor .. Instead there are the most romantic rooms with sloping roof with exposed beams and small skylights in the ceiling. On the ground floor, in addition to the reception, we have our own restaurant, open for the summer season , from March to November , that in addition to the typical dishes of Italian cuisine in general , it also offers some taste of the Tuscan tradition and Lucca. And for relaxation ? Do not miss our pool and our wellness area! All the staff and me we will be happy to welcome you in the warmest way possible and help you with all your needs ... more   less
