“Lovely but vastly overpriced”

Food is not worth the money, but perhaps the ambience is. Plan to wait quite awhile between courses. Don't go in mosquito season or you will be biten.

“A breath taking view......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

My fellow travel and best mate has wanted to visit this place for 15 years. So who was I to deny her this small pleasure in this her 50th year. After a steep climb in over 30 degrees we arrive out of breath, a shade of beetroot red and looked somewhat deshevelled. The welcome was very warm inspite of the fact that we looked so incongruously out of place in this fabulous Orient Express owned hotel.
The view was one of the most spectacular I have ever seen!!!! But beware the prices are not for the faint hearted. 71 euros for 4 glasses of processco and a bottle of still water. Not sure why Angelina and Brad didn't stay here instead of Firenze; it's definitely more their price range than mine....but oh it was nice to share the dream if even for just a few hours :))))

“At last we visited!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

After having a home within 4 Kim's of the hotel and having spoken for years about visiting, we arranged a dinner at the Hotel. Having heard some good, and some bad things we somewhat expected a stuffy approach and unfriendly aloof service. Having spoken to the staff about the dres code, which was not overly restrictive I made the booking.
On arrival all the negative vibes we had been given were bowled away, great welcome, very friendly and an offer to take a look round the gardens before taking a pre dinner drink. Beware they mix those Gins strong. With drink in hand and great view the enjoy, all of a sudden we were 30 mins late for our booked sitting, which was no problem.
Food was great, service was relaxed by by no means slow, a great wine list which considering the age and quality on offer I did not find too outrageously priced. Sommelier knowledgable about the wine ( as you would expect however ), and knew the vineyard and area well. Considering the wine, drinks and quality of the food, I would say the value is good.

Having taken so long to go, I can assure you it won't be so long till our return for dinner.

“Should be top 10 in Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012 via mobile

This was comfortably our best meal in Rome and Florence. The prices are high for food (The wine is actually quite reasonable priced -- we had an excellent '96 Italian Bordeaux style for less than $70) but you would expect nothing less for the best view in the entire city. We ordered fairly unique dishes (The pasta with Land Snails was the clear winner) but everything was amazing. One quick note - Long pants are required. Fortunately, they had a spare pair, when we showed up after a 90+ degree day in linen shorts. That this is not rated in the top 10 restaraunts in all of Italy amazes me. I expect it to get Fodors and Michelin Stars very soon.

“The most romantic dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

We stayed three nights at Villa San Michele and we had dinner at the Restaurant all the three nights. We loved it so much that we came back another evening while we where staying in Florence with some friends! We have to say that we travel a lot and we are quite reluctant to dine at the hotels' restaurants but at Villa San Michele we were caught by a wonderful surprise. From the service, the food, the wines... And what a view! All was perfect from the beginning to the end. Thank you to all the staff for making our evenings there so romantic and unforgettable!
