My wife (who is gluten free) had done research into GF restaurants in Florence and discovered that this place had won the "world championships of gluten free pizza." After laughing that such a competition existed, we decided we had to try it for ourselves. We were not disappointed.
We ordered the Vesuvio pizza with gluten free crust and… wow. Just wow. It was one of the best pizzas we've ever tasted and far better than most regular non-GF pizzas we've ever had. All the ingredients (buffalo mozzarella, arugula, truffle, cherry tomatoes, Tuscan ham) were fresh and delicious, and the crust was out of this world. You'd never know it was gluten free.
We also ordered a gluten free lasagna which was equally delicious. One of the best lasagnas (gluten free or otherwise) that we'd ever had.
Combined with amazing house wine and coffee + homemade tiramisu for dessert, our dinner at Ciro & Sons was one we will never forget. Truly a highlight of our trip to Italy and one we wish we could replicate back home in L.A. We told our waiter (who was the friendliest guy ever… one of the "Sons," presumably) that if they opened a location in L.A. we would invest. He laughed and probably thought we were kidding. If only.
