“Beautifully appointed apartment.”

We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this place. Its situated just outside the city and in reality is probably a 10 to 15 min bus ride away. Buses are pretty frequent and the stop is across the road from the apartment. The owner was extremely helpful with our pick up and he took time to meet us outside Firenze Sante Maria Novello main train station upon our arrival, which was big relief and saved us struggling with heavy cases on / off the bus not to mention trying to figure out how you find you way in a strange city to an apartment some 15 mins away. I always find taking a train complete with luggage to a main city train station quite stressful as you stand out like a sore thumb and are fair game for the pimps, thieves, beggars that tend to hang around large city railway stations. In fact Matteo, who collected us described the area as 'a little creepy' The location of the apartment as mentioned is outside the city but in a nice residential 'safe' feels area. So top marks for collecting us and he was also good enough to do the same on our return home, which i did pay 20 euro for but it wasn't requested, which was nice. Matteo also recommended a couple of local eateries & told us one to stay out of, so the local knowledge helped. There is also a local bakery close to the front door and a Lidl supermarket & a couple of cafe bars within a very short distance. The bus number we used to get to and from the city was 6a or 6B both did the trick. The apartment is located on the second floor, there is an extremely small lift that works perfectly well to help with cases. Its a nice spacious apartment with two large bedrooms and complete with gorgeous high ceilings. Theres a large dinning / lounge area, large hallway, bathroom with shower, bidet, WHB & WC, no bath though, however not an issue for us as we prefer a shower. Towels were provided but id say if we had been sharing with another couple / family we would have needed these changing mid week. TA review does also say that maid service / linen etc provided & as this is our first try at self catering / apartment wasn't sure what this entailed but there was no offer to provide additional towels / linen? What I would say is that Im sure if we had needed more towels / linen Matteo would have been there in a flash, he was very helpful. There is also an extremely well stocked kitchen, complete with dishwasher and washing machine and about every pot , pan kitchen gadget you could need to feed a large family! Matteo said this place used to be his grand parents and evidence of this is apparent due to the large numbers of glasses, cutlery, linen table cloths etc etc. There was everything you needed and much more. We ate 3 evening meals during our stay because of the fact that it was such a nice place. A word of warning it is fitted out very nicely (as pics suggest) with lovely antique furniture (some of which is a little worn but adds character) and I Don think its a place Id like to take a couple of young tear away kids for fear of them damaging anything. Our only slight moan is the fact that the electrics proved to be a problem from time to time. Being in the building trade myself as soon as the electric went off for the first time I quickly re-set the breakers in the fuse board no harm done but i did become more of an issue later into the week and one evening it tripped out over a dozen times. i do understand that this place is probably very old and the electric not able to cope with a number of modern appliance on at any one time, however some night we had very little by way of lighting on, and sometimes just using the orin tripped the electrics, which I reported to Matteo, who was in the process of contacting and electrician. My thoughts on this are that although I had some sympathy with the owner its no good having and oven, dishwasher, washing machine along with hairdryer / iron etc if you cannot use one or two f these at any one time and had it been a family using both bedrooms Im sure the load would have been substantially more than what we were using. The main problem would be that if the power cut out at night you'd be plunged into near total darkness, not emergency lighting to either lead you to the distribution board let alone the exit heaven forbid here had been a fire. I dint notice any fire alarms / smoke detectors /emergency lighting at all but not sure if these are a legal requirement? I could be mistaken but didn't notice any. There is also another WC in the apartment which again is a bonus. All in all a lovely place and Matteo did his very best when we needed anything he even got us some milk and breakfast items on our arrival which was a lovely touch. Thanks Matteo for a lovely stay we have recommended to our friends, just get those electric sorted sooner rather than later

THE APARTMENT - The pictures of this apartment really don't do it justice. It is incredibly spacious and beautifully decorated with the largest and most exquisite murano/Venetian glass chandeliers.
The is an abundance of everything you need here including a large kitchen full of every utensil you could want and more.
We were provided with a small breakfast basket which included jams, biscuits, water and most importantly coffee.
The ceilings go on for what seem to be miles, the beds are large and comfortable and the wardrobes would quite easily hold a persons entire clothing collection, the bathroom and toilet are both spacious and nice and clean.
The two dual aspect balconies offer a contrasting glimpse of this lovely Italian suburb, at the rear you are offered a unique view of the behind closed doors slower paced Italian lifestyle whilst at the front you can view the daily hustle and bustle of this lively yet quiet area.
Inside is a writing desk which has an abundance of leaflets of things to do and places to eat, and the owner (Matteo) also offers to make your trip unique to you with Italian cooking classes etc (held elsewhere). We would recommend a trip to St Marks Church to watch some Opera up close and personal and a trip to Teatro Del Sale.
OUR EXPERIENCE - Myself and my sisters traveled with our Mother who has limited mobility and cannot walk any distance, with just 4 steps up into the main entrance of the building and then a small lift (our Mother has a folding wheelchair and it had to be folded to fit into the lift) up to the apartment (1st floor) this is ideal for those who struggle with stairs.
The owner Matteo was so accommodating, offering us transfers to and from Santa Maria Novella Train Station (for a small cost), helping us with our bags and offering us the option of further transfers into the city centre, which we found invaluable as we came to realise quite quickly that Italy is not a place that is particularly wheelchair friendly. The curbs are very high and the beautiful cobbled streets mean a wheelchair with small wheels at the front is prone to getting stuck. It was also, unfortunate that in our experience people do not offer the same courtesy as over here in the UK to wheelchair users making for quite slow and uncomfortable progress in busy areas and our only trip on the bus highlighted this experience. The transfers that Matteo offered to us meant that we were able to see much more of this beautiful city than would have been possible had we been reliant on public transportation and despite the sometimes immovable traffic Matteo remained courteous and amiable. For this we are very grateful.
Our whole stay in Firenze was wonderful, from the beautiful sculptures, the delicious food, the lovely architecture to the gorgeous apartment and its truly charming owner. Grazie mille Matteo.
la ringrazio molto per rendere il nostro soggiorno così piacevole.
