Was invited to a private event at this venue for an opera showcase.
Located on the outskirts of Florence, this contemporary opera house stands out with its geometric building style.
The place had tight security and smelled of new construction, but I was told all of that was for the private event. But its still under construction, because the original vision was to make it an arts complex with 3 stages.
I was seated in the main opera house which seats 1800. The sound was excellent inside the venue.
I could see this place becoming 5 stars, once the complex is finished being built.
We attended a symphony performance while in Florence over Thanksgiving November 2016. The musicians are world class and the maestro is on of the best in the world. As Americans, the local Italians in the audience were very welcoming and wanted to be sure we had a good experience. Highly recommend enjoying a performance there.
Great spacious modern concert/opera venue.
£20 seats to Lucia di Lammermoor a bargain. Fantastic performance.
This has been our first visit at Firenze Opera and we have enjoyed so much that we have decided already to book twice operas in calendar for the upcoming new season 2015/2016 (Così fan tutte Mozart and L'Italiana in Algeri Rossini). Ticketing was so easy on line and map of theater very well designed. Check in was efficient and the moderne architecture of this brand new theater was very impressive. Quality of acoustics was very good with little preference for orchestra sound. Execution was great in terms of singers, choir orchestra and scenic design. A special mention for soprano Mrs. Yasko Sato, really a great Butterfly. All in all a very good theater.
Very easy to find from Santa Novella station (follow tram lines) and fantastic venue.
Very reasonably priced food and drinks available in foyer and tickets are very good value - we were in one of the boxes for only €20 each and free upgrade on second night we went.
Fantastic value for world class opera - certainly worth a visit and a fantastic experience.
The Florence opera building is only two years old, not finished yet by far and already deteriorating...
A few sizes to big for the city and ambitions of Florence?
I saw two operas on two consecutive nights, Barbiere was okay, Butterfly was great. Orchestra sounds great, singers come over okay. The architect made railings which obstruct the view of almost everybody on the balconies, quite annoying, be careful when choosing your seat.
