Don't come expecting the usual pasta-pizza and insalatas joints that are teeming in the touristy parts of The city. This is an Art Deco style, fine dining establishment, frequented by well dressed locals and endorsed by Tuscan fine restaurants, Michelin and others. The atmosphere is dreary, to say the least, and the decor is long in the tooth. But when it comes to food and service - this is the place! Fills up after 8.30 in the evenings. Bookings recommended.
Starters: The Quail roasterd in lard with a paprika sauce and the beef carpaccio with pickled pearl onion and mini gherkins was wonderful - expertly different in taste and presentation. We had the linguine with beef ragout and Parmesan from the secondi, again excellent. The fillets of pan seared cod with a spiced tomato sauce just hit the spot. The wine was a Michele Satta Bolgheri (Tuscany), 2008, velvety and fruity. For desert the Bavarian creme in saffron served Demi glacé with blackberry sauce and marcsopone stuffed biscotti. Prices for two - around 120 euros including wine and taxes.
