We just got back and have to say that one of the best parts about this hotel (and there are Many good parts!) is the manager, Giovanni! This gentleman is helpful, friendly, kind and goes wayyy beyond the call of duty to make sure you will enjoy your stay! The hotel is Very clean and the rooms are nice, Ours was large and like many hotels in europe, the rooms are all different, so if you have special requests, let them be known in an email to the hotel ,well in advance. There is a tiny elevator that is a big help. The location is great and you can walk to so many places from here. Be sure to let them make your museum reservations before you arrive, they will do so at a minimal cost that is well worth it! Go eat lunch at "Zaza" a restaurant that is only 2 or 3 blocks away and easy to find with their help. Sit in their outdoor dining 'tent' and enjoy! Make time to eat dinner at "Ciro and Sons"(near the train station) on their honeysuckle vine-filled patio for a wonderful meal, service, and just great people! (and the profiterole dessert is awesome too!)Hotels in the United States can definitely take a few lessons from the management, customer service level, overall hospitality, and cleanliness of Collodi!

We have stayed at the Hotel Collodi last August, it was our first trip to Florence (in fact, our first trip to Italy ever), and it was for a very special reason - my 30th Birthday, so the trip just had to be perfect - and it was!
We were looking for a nice, comfortable and affordable hotel in the heart of Florence and we booked our stay at another hotel first, but a couple of days later, when we were looking for some travel info about Florence, we came across the web site of this beautiful hotel that used to be called La Locanda di Pinocchio before. Florence being the city of Pinocchio, and us being great fans of the wooden marionette and after browsing through the description and images of this property, we decided to book a room here and cancel the first reservation. We booked well in advance and got a special summer rate.
The first pleasant surprise was a friendly confirmation email we received a week before our arrival, it was a sign of caring customer service and great communication skills (in fluent English) from the behalf of hotel management and we were delighted and reassured, knowing that the hotel was waiting to welcome us and make us feel like at home.
When we finally arrived in Florence, we were an hour too early for the check-in, so the hotel manager let us leave our suitcases downstairs in the lobby, gave us tons of helpful directions and tips about the city, along with a lovely colorful map.
We went for a walk, and a cup of coffee and realized with our absolute amazement that we are in fact right in the heart of Florence!
Duomo, San Lorenzo, Piazza della Repubblica were all a short walk away from the hotel, and following one single street (Via de Ginori which becomes Borgo San Lorenzo), it was impossible to get lost even for awe-struck, open-mouthed tourists like us.
We found our way back to the hotel quickly, where another surprise was waiting for us - namely, our suitcases were all brought up to our room (so we didn't have to drag them up the stairs)!
When we entered our room, yet another surprise awaited us - the room itself! The pictures of the room on the web simply can not describe it accurately enough! The room was simply superb! It had an appearance of a very luxurious suite, two floors, exquisitely furnished and decorated. The bed downstairs was large enough for two, both beds very comfortable, even for those with bad backs! Two spacious closets, two writing desks, plenty of room to move and even to pose for some glamorous holiday shots :))
Two air conditioners worked well, making room pleasantly cool after the August heat from the street. The room was facing a small but noisy street, but the double-glassed window, when closed, blocked all the noise out.
The bathroom (with a hot shower) was tiled and very nice, plenty of clean towels and complimentary soap and shampoo! (Believe it or not, I stayed at one Hilton Hotel in Europe where they did not offer these).
Also, there is a digital safe box upstairs, very convenient when you don't feel like carrying your heavy photo equipment with you at night.
A couple of words about breakfast! I've read many reviews where some folks complain about it and all I have to say, if you expect Ritz quality, then go stay at Ritz! We had the best coffee ever, delicious Italian yoghurts, tasty fresh orange and grapefruit juice, yummy pastry, and we had as much of it all as we wanted to! Plus, let's not forget to mention that it was free! You can actually save some bucks that you can later spend on souvenirs and gelatos in the city.
To sum it up: it was some delicious nutritious breakfast! Perfect way to kick off a long day of excursions!
Also, there is a mini bar in the room, so you can always bring in a bottle of chianti and some italian cheese from the local supermarket that just on the corner!
All in all, we've spent 3 unforgettable nights at the Hotel Collodi and as we were checking out, we regretted only one thing - having to leave Florence!

Four of us, on a private tour, loved our stay at the Relais Santa Croce. The rooms reign supreme with comfortable beds, huge luxurious bathrooms, flat screen large t.v.s and divine amenities. Everyone of us is going to return there as soon as possible. The decor and comfort of the hotel makes it a 5 star rating and outstanding in every way, along with friendly and caring service! The hotel is new, so the word hasn't gotten around, yet, but I highly recommend this hotel. The location is superb, also. " Returning in March '06 " - Edmond, Oklahoma
