“Like a home away from home!”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We stayed at the Palazzo for 10 days in October. The rooms are massive, clean, with comfortable large bedrooms and best of all, a fully equipped kitchen (enough cutlery, pots and pans, dishes, North American coffee maker, kettle, fridge, 4 burner stove and oven). We stayed in rooms 2A and 2B which faced the garden (beware of mosquitoes at night though). Both were fantastic, but 2B was bigger and had a better arranged kitchen (more counter space to prep food and a counter top to eat at compared to a small table). However, both were exceptional, just 2B was better. Both were not noisy at all. An iron and ironing board is also in the room. WiFi is available, but not reliable.

You are close to everything here; 30 seconds to the Academia, 10 minutes to the Duomo and the market, 15 to Uffizi, and an easy 20 minute walk to piazelle Michaelangelo. It is also a 15 minute easy walk to the train station from the palazzo. We cabbed to the airport for 30 euros in 20 minutes - perfect. A grocery store with everything you need is 2 minutes away; market is 15 minutes for a larger variety of meats and fruits.

The owner, Francessca, is an amazing, and thoughtful host. She is willing to help out with your stay in any way.

We would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: All rooms are fine, some bigger than others, but even the one facing the Academia is quiet, large an...

Only 5 minutes on feet from the very center of Florance, this palace has beautiful, clean and large rooms.
Your staying there is for sure less anonymous and more special than in a normal hotel!

We stayed for three nights in Florence and the Palazzo Alfani was a wonderful place to stay. It is located in the historical centre close to everything but was very quiet, we had the rooms facing the garden and the thick walls prevented any noise coming from outside. Fransesca was very kind and welcoming - recommended a great local bakery shop and grocery store so we could have nice breakfast. Also we went to the farmers market for dinner ingredients one night and enjoyed a delicious dinner, too.
I can sincerely recommend Palazzo Alfani, I prefer this rather than a hotel.

We loved staying at Palazzo Alffani al David because it was so comfortable, quiet (on garden outlook), spacious and most importantly we could cook using the fantastic ingredients from the markets. We really enjoyed being able to stay in and relax in such a beautiful apartment after a big day out seeing the sights. Everything is in walking distance and easy to find from this accommodation. I liked how you could book this apt for only 2 nights as most self contained accommodation has a min. of 4 nights.Francesca was extremely welcoming and helpful. We will definitely return to this beautiful haven in Florence.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking garden very quiet but more expensive

We arrived and couldnt figure out how reach Francesca from the HUGE wooden entry door. She never advised us how. She finally greated us from the second story window after we buzzed every button. She took us to our room, 2B, a NICE sized room on the 2nd floor and explained everything. Apartment was nice, LOTS of space. I remember reading on another review that the shower leaked from the shower door. This is true. It leaks from a hole in the door, due to there not being a handle on the door. Should be an easy fix. I know I didn't go all the way to Italy to watch TV, but after a LONG day of sight seeing, it's nice to chill in front of the TV. But unless your Italian or from the Middle East, theres no point in turning it on.
The location of the apartment is the BEST! Your in the middle of everything and DIRECTLY ACROSS the street from THE DAVID, LITERALLY! Each day when we opened the door as we were leaving the building, there would be several people waiting in the street to gain entry into the Gallery and vendors. You never heard the noise from the street inside the building.
Everything is in walking distance. From resturants, caffes, and all the attractions.
One more thing about the building and apartment. It's like Fort Knox. The main door to the building is huge and secured, theres a second locking gate just inside and then the door to each apartment is about 4-5 inches thick with a locking mechanism like a safe.
Francesca is also VERY nice and will answer any questions you have.
For the location and size of the apartment, I would recommend staying at Palazzo Alfani.

Room Tip: The owners cat lives with her on the first floor and hangs out so if your allergic to cats, request...

Hello and thank you for your detailed review. We are on to the shower door and handle problem. Thanks for pointing this out (it's actually leaking for a different reason that the handle, but whatever, it still leaks - we are sorting it).

Fort Knox made us laugh! But you are right, we certainly feel very safe in our old Palazzo.

Thanks so much for staying with us - we do hope to see you again soon.

We stayed at Alfani in August 2012, booking 2 rooms for 5 people (2+3) for two nights. The place is a period aristocratic building adapted for hosting guests. Frescoed ceilings are extremely high (at least 4 meters!). Rooms are furnished with antique items and precious prints. Every room is actually a suite with furnished kitchen.

When we came, we had a hiccup with the air conditioning in our room, and the administration has put us in a suite on the second floor suitable for 5 people - it had two bedrooms (one just big and another huge), two bathrooms, kitchen, and a very big living room totaling in at least 100 m^2 area. It was just amazing (I would move there right away). Overall, it was one of the best stays in Italy for the money we paid.

A few things to note, however, to set the expectations right: First, Palazzo Alfani (as the name suggests) is a house, not an hotel. They do not have a reception open 24/7, so you must coordinate with the administration the time of your arrival. Second, it is located in the heart of the pedestrian center of Florence (exactly in front of the Accademia gallery hosting Michaelangelo's David original) and less than 500m from the Duomo. If you come by car (as we did), better let the administration know - they have a valet parking service that takes your car and parks it for you somewhere and then brings it back.

Room Tip: If you are a big family, go for the big suite with 2 bedrooms on the second floor (I think 2B)

Great tips! We always advise that if you are coming to Florence don't bring a car. Florence and car are two words that should never be in the same sentence! You are right about coordinating with us too about arrival times. But we are always available by cell phone! Glad that you enjoyed your stay.

The apartment was beautiful and provided ample room. The shower was terrific with two shower heads and massagers. The kitchen gave us an opportunity to eat at home, which was a nice break from eating out. The grocery store is just a few doors down from the apartment. We were on a busy pedestrian street, but we could not hear a thing in the apartment. It was wonderful to be so close to everything and yet be able to sleep peacefully. We were only a few blocks from the Duomo and the central market was an easy 10 minute walk away. The Accademia was across the street. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely choose to stay here again.
