Definitely more for hostelers, not the most romantic place in a supposedly romantic city. Close to the train station which has obvious advantages but also some unexpected disadvantages due to the hectic nature of the area. Ivan was the most polite and accommodating host which really added a personal touch. He did give us our own room intended for 5-6 people; however, the sheets and amenities were starting to wear and the bathroom was less than desirable, although a pretty standard Italian-style facility with the shower as part of the room. Close to the most historic attractions, including the Duomo as well as plenty of restaurants, shops, and coffee places. A perfect place for backpackers or groups but I would probably choose another place first.

I stayed at My Friends in October at the Via Faenza location. There are two rooms available with ensuites at this location and the owner manager is onsite with his family. I felt I got what I paid for as this was amongst the cheapest accommodation I found in Florence that included a private bathroom. There is nothing flash about this guesthouse but I was only there to sleep. The linen is a little greyed but clean. I skipped the included breakfast after the first day as there was fresh coffee and croissants at the nearby market. This was a quite location, I was in an internal room but there was never much street noise when I returned at various hours of the evening. The guesthouse location was great for me as I used the nearby rail and bus stations to visit other parts of Tuscany. The manager was brilliant helping with advise and making bookings on my behalf.

My partner and I stayed at My Friends Guesthouse in June 2008 and were very happy with the accomodation.

After initially booking a room at the Via Faenza location, we were a little worried about being re-located to the Via Ricasoli premises (Giulia Guesthouse). The extra walk between the two places isn't too far unless you have heavy luggage!

The location of the Giulia Guesthouse is fantastic - it's literally across the road from the entrance line to the Galleria Accademia which houses David. The other main attractions are all a short walk away.

We stayed in the downstairs bedroom which was very private and secure. The room is no frills, but great if you're just after somewhere to sleep for the night.

The shower/toilet facilities were clean and adequate for the amount of guests.

If you're after somewhere affordable and central, then I would highly recommend the Giulia Guesthouse.

Additionally, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

There are two locations for this guesthouse, we stayed at the one in the center, and it was great! It is a big, beatiful apartment, and you rent one of the 3 bed rooms. Quiet, next to just about everything and cheap. Though you have to be willing to share bathroom. The owner (we think she was) comes by every morning, and gave us lots of information. Great stay!
