“Beyond expectations”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

We came to Florence foot sore and crowd weary after spending the Easter season touring the museums, architecture, and antiquities of Rome and Pompeii. This was our first mother/daughter trip in several years, and our first time in Italy. Il Salotto di Firenza was a short walk from the train station and we easily found the well marked door next to the Gucci store. The elevator was small but charming, and the welcome that we received from our host, Alessandro, made us feel as if we had entered the home of a friend. Alessandro offered us a refreshing drink and gave us a tour of the facilities. Our room was clean and nicely decorated; the bathroom was large and proved to have plenty of hot water. And oh the balcony! Some reviewers had mentioned noise, but though I am a light sleeper it was never a problem. There was nothing so beautiful as lying in bed listening to the soft music of church bells in the morning. Standing on the balcony after a rain was like walking into a painting. Soft light reflected off the pavement below and lit up dozens of colorful umbrellas up and down the street. Breakfast was always plentiful and tasty. It was a nice surprise to be invited to make coffee or tea and help ourselves to juice and snacks 24 hours a day. When we planned to take an early train to Venice and told Alessandro not to order enough breakfast for us that day, he graciously offered to pack our food so that we could eat on the train. We loved Florence, and if I am ever fortunate enough to return I will certainly hope to stay at Il Salotto de Firenza.

We stayed at Il Salotto di Firenze for 5 nights and had two different rooms. We stayed in a smaller room in the back for one night and a large room in the front with a balcony overlooking Via Roma for the last 4 nights. The host, Alessandro, was so wonderful and accommodating. He recommended great restaurants, made dinner reservations, showed us where some good shops were and arranged for a taxi to pick us up for our early flight home. The hotel is very clean and in the most wonderful location, just steps from the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza della Repubblica. It was a short walk to the Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, the train station and all the museums. We also enjoyed being able to hear talented street musicians from our balconyin the evenings.

If you stay in one of the rooms that face the Via Roma, I recommend bringing along some earplugs. The street is busy all night long with happy Florentines and tourists, as well as early morning street sweepers. The room in the back was much quieter.

We would gladly stay at Il Salotto di Firenze again and again.

Not only a great location but Alessandro the manager of Il Salotto di Firenze helped to make our five night stay even more memorable. When I return to Florence this is the B&B I will choose. The extra cost of the largest room is well worth it. Within easy walking distance of the train and bus station and all the wonderful restaurants.
Caio!

Fabulous location, lovely room and Guido on reception was lovely. We also had problems finding the actual door to the hotel as it isnt very obvious from the main door where it is. The breakfasts were ok but what you would expect from a continental breakfast. We missed breakfast on the first day but the staff were very nice and made us coffees.
Would highly recommend this place but dont want to as it may become difficult for us to book again as its only small.

Room Tip: get the one with the balcony

We enjoyed our stay with the staff of the hotel! The location is superb and it feels like you're actually living right next to the Duomo. Many restaurants and shops near-by. Also a good location during the day when you want to just leave your shopping things, or to just take a break. In the beginning it's not too easy to find, but if you call them, they kindly come out to the streets to find you! The only thing that was not too super was the breakfast. But other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel!! We had a nice little balcony too, which we enjoyed a lot.

Room Tip: Definitely the balcony room was nice.

This B&B couldn't have been in a better location and Alessandro the manager couldn't have been more helpful. We were a bit disappointed with a few things for the price we paid however. The rooms were dated and way too warm, the air con was useless(although Alessandro offerend to get someone look at it) this meant having to leave the window open which made it impossible to sleep. Florence is VERY NOISY! even with earplugs. We asked for a quiet room but did not get one. Breakfast was also very limited. All in all you can find somewhere better for your money.

Room Tip: asked for a quiet room but did not get one.

If you like street scenes and all that goes with it, including the buzz from the street below as well as the ringing of the bells from the campinile, then Il Salotto is perfect. Just around the corner from Duomo, it has an electronic private entrance that make one feel like you are a resident living in the big city. It also has an elevator! Enough said. The staff was very friendly. They have a quaint dining area for breakfast. I cannot comment on the breakfast because I didn’t have any. The room itself was great. Large and accommodating with a nice bathroom. Altogether, very clean and elegant in a contemporary simplistic elegance. There are tall shuttered windows that lead to a small balcony that opens to views towards Ponte Vecchio on one end, and San Lorenzo Market on the other. I wish I could have stayed there longer but had to catch a flight back to the states. Very unfortunate because it’s certainly a great place at a great location..
