We came to Florence foot sore and crowd weary after spending the Easter season touring the museums, architecture, and antiquities of Rome and Pompeii. This was our first mother/daughter trip in several years, and our first time in Italy. Il Salotto di Firenza was a short walk from the train station and we easily found the well marked door next to the Gucci store. The elevator was small but charming, and the welcome that we received from our host, Alessandro, made us feel as if we had entered the home of a friend. Alessandro offered us a refreshing drink and gave us a tour of the facilities. Our room was clean and nicely decorated; the bathroom was large and proved to have plenty of hot water. And oh the balcony! Some reviewers had mentioned noise, but though I am a light sleeper it was never a problem. There was nothing so beautiful as lying in bed listening to the soft music of church bells in the morning. Standing on the balcony after a rain was like walking into a painting. Soft light reflected off the pavement below and lit up dozens of colorful umbrellas up and down the street. Breakfast was always plentiful and tasty. It was a nice surprise to be invited to make coffee or tea and help ourselves to juice and snacks 24 hours a day. When we planned to take an early train to Venice and told Alessandro not to order enough breakfast for us that day, he graciously offered to pack our food so that we could eat on the train. We loved Florence, and if I am ever fortunate enough to return I will certainly hope to stay at Il Salotto de Firenza.
