This hotel is in a great location on Piazza San Marco, 5 minutes north of the Duomo by walking. The hotel is on the 3rd floor of an old building and is generally a nice place. The rooms could have been a bit cleaner but it is an excellent place to stay on the cheap. We had a room with a balcony for only €40 a night (because we paid in cash for a 8 night stay). The shower had nice water pressure and the water was generally warm. The beds were big although the comforters were a bit dirty. Breakfast was a little small, even in Italian standards, but there is an excellent pastry shop two doors down from the hotel. Overall, a great stay if you are looking for something cheap and clean.

We actually had booked a room at a hostel but they oversold so we were given a room at the Hotel San Marco. We had 4 people so they were happy to put an additional bed in our room. We had our own private bathroom and a cute little balcony overlooking some rooftops. It was perfect for young adults such as myself looking for an inexpensive but safe and clean place to stay. We also got breakfast included. It was also very close to some of the museums and smaller piazzas.

We stayed at this hotel for one night at the end of January. We stayed in the three-bed room. It was large but very simple. The place was clean and the proprietors were nice. It served our needs, and for 60 Euro, it was very reasonable.

We booked this hotel from the Ryanair website.
Hotel San Marco is a simple hotel with big clean rooms.
It's situated in the centre of the city, right beside the San Marco
Monastery, 5 minutes walk from the duomo.
The furniture in the rooms is very basic and has no luxury.
The bathroom in the room is ok.
The people are very friendly and are ready to assist the clients.
Breakfast is included and is a good continental breakfast.
We were very pleased with the stay in this nice hotel.

We stayed in this hotel (an excuse for a hotel) for a night in Sept 2006 and regret the day we booked it. We made the booking through Booking.com. We paid a hefty amount for what we thought would be a good 2 star hotel (considering the price we paid), but the hotel does not even merit a single star rating. The pictures on the booking site were deceptive.

It was a good 20 minute walk from the main station. It is close to Galleria del Academia and Piazza Duomo.

The entrance to the hotel is in tatters. The rooms are absolutely basic and the bare floors didn't even feel clean. The cots were creaky, the bed saggy and the pillows rock hard. The sheets and towels didn't seem clean. The shower was tiny and the shower door was broken. The soap case (attached to the wall) was dirty and broken. Our room faced the back and we couldn't keep the window open because the view was dirty and smelt bad.

Breakfast was terrible. It consisted of cereals, milk, bread, jam, butter, juice, and tea/coffee. One carton of milk kept on the table seemed to have gone bad. The dining room is tiny and not clean. The attendants in the dining room didn't understand English at all and hence we failed to get our bread toasted and had to do with just tea and cereals. No eggs, ham, sausages, bacon etc.

Overall, it was a nightmare and it was a relief to leave the hotel. Florence is a lovely place, unfortunately our stay there wasn't. It was so bad that it has made us very apprehensive of any hotel we book. Every time we go to a hotel, we wonder "What if it turns out to be like the one in Florence?"
