“could have been better”
Reviewed December 18, 2011

my husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. it was a little further from the station than we would have liked & you have to walk through some dodgy looking streets to get to it. when we arrived we were the only guests in the building.

we found our room to be adequate & were luckily to have the bathroom straight outside our room. breakfast provisions were basic but we've experienced that all over Italy. at about 7pm on our first night some new guests arrived. I think they must have thought they had checked into a hostel because they had their TVs up very loud, smoking in the halls and were shouting, slamming doors and carrying on late into the night. we could even hear the people in the room next to ours talking all night. after a day of traveling the last thing we needed was to be kept up all night! we actually considered leaving that night but as we had already paid we put up with it.

although the guests are no reflection on the quality of the accommodation, this greatly ruined our time here and we are leaving Florence grumpy and sleep deprived. the owners may need to upgrade the doors as the locks are noisy and are impossible to open quietly! maybe also need more signs in rooms to let people know that this is not a hostel & to be respectful of others!

We absolutely loved this place!! Gino was amazing, and very informative. He was also kind, and went out of his way to help us with the wifi, because it was not working.
Although it is a good walk from the center of Florence, it is not UN-manageable by any means. The breakfast that he gives is basic, but a good start.

If your travelling by train then carrying your bags a short distance to your hotel is a nice thing.
When you find the hotel by reading the brass plaques you need to phone the number on the plaque and an enthusiastic person will soon turn up and let you in.
Room tidy and comfortable. Unusually they give you coffee making facilities and they have free WIFI(look for the note on the notice board).Plus marks here.
It is a bit of a walk into the city but hey you get to see even more of Florence. No hills to walk up so that's OK. You pay more to be closer in, but it isn't a bad walk except if your lugging too much camera gear around which became generally annoying as our holiday progressed. Oh well slave to my hobby.
Good place for us budget travellers+++

We had originally booked to stay at their 'sister' B&B around the corner called 'B&B Peterson and were advised by email a couple of days prior to our arrival that we would be going to B&B Cassia. We were thankful that they had given us prior warning and that it was still fairly close to where we thought we were going to be.

The traffic is loud and constant on the roads surrounding both B&B's.

The lady who checked us in was lovely.

We weren't very happy with the room for a couple of reasons. Firstly we think the room we were given was really the caretakers room as it didn't have a room number like all the others, only 'Private' on the door.

Our main worry about the room was that the bed cover looked like it hadn't been washed in a very long time. We are aware that top covers at hotels are not washed after every guest but this one really needed washing. The sheets underneath were clean and obviously freshly laundered though.

The other issue with the room was the noise. The constant honking and noise of the busy roads nearby was too much for us. This, however, probably wouldn't be an issue for travelers who are used to city traffic noise.

The bathroom was ok..... shared, but clean.

The coffee machine in the hall was fantastic.

There is a little pizza place on the same road (walking away from the main road) called il Jacopino's. They serve fantastic food and it seemed like only locals were eating when we were there.

We only stayed one night at B&B Cassia but we went out of our way to go back to the pizza place on other nights we were in florence.

The guest house operator was friendly and nice. The room was very nice and clean. Had a back patio that was nice to have. Espresso machine and pre-packaged croissant for breakfast. The guest house itself was on the wrong side of the train station from all of the Florence you would like to see. I am an experienced backpacker and felt not great taking my wife there at night. Just past the guest house is a bus stop that once we found that out made things easier. However, Florence's bus system is and enigma. The stop was called Cristofori even though the piazza was something else and the streets were something else.

Here you feel like at home. The room is comfortable and the bathroom is clean. In the hallway, there's a refrigerator guests can put in water, drinks and so on and also coffee machine. There's no one there all day and you have to make an appointment to meet with the host. But that's not a big problem. I wrote an e-mail with the time I may arrive at and luckily, I met the hostess just when she left the apartment. I enjoyed my stay there and did not see her anymore during the stay. It was a pleasant stay there for me.

Very clean and relatively quiet place to stay. No breakfast, but a good cappucino and a sweet croissant are available at the caffe on the corner for 2 euro's alltogether !
Friendly owner, good shower : recommended.

  • Liked — clean, good shower
  • Disliked — distance to center (minor problem, walkable)
