“A Great Find”
Reviewed October 22, 2006

We stayed in the Pitti Apartment at the Relais Piazza Signoria for three nights and what a great experience. It is the top floor of an building with the entry door right on Piazza Signoria. It is 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher, living room, dining room and rooftop terrace. You can see the Palazzo Vecchio tower from the terrace and can enjoy a lovely evening on the terrace.

The beds were extremely comfortable and the price was less than 2 hotel rooms at a much lesser hotel. The staff was very helpful and the place was very clean.

The only problem we had was with the elevator. A couple of times, someone on one of the other floors, let the doors remain open causing it to be stuck on that floor. It is one of the old type that you need to make sure you've closed the door, so that it can be called to the other floors.

Just back from Florence and our stay at the Relais Piazza Signoria. The hotel is located in Piazza Signoria, which is also home to the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the replica of the David (among other statutes). The Ponte Vecchio is less than five minutes away. The hotel is entered via a discreet door sandwiched between a restaurant and a gelateria. The building appears to be a mixture of private apartments and hotel rooms. The whole effect is to give the feeling you're living in Florence for a short while, not just staying in a hotel room!

The room itself was reasonably spacious by European standards. It was tastefully decorated in a modern minimal style. If you're allergic to Ikea this isn't the place for you... All painted in neutral colours - even the exposed wooden beams - apart from a pale orange accent panel behind the flat screen TV. There was a remote control for SKY TV but we didn't figure out how to work it - too busy taking out and about exploring Florence! There was a very large king size double bed with crisp white linen and plenty of well-stuffed pillows (none of those strange flat square pillows you sometimes get in Europe!). The kitchenette had a sink, fridge, stove (with two hobs), cutlery, delph, and a starter pack of supplies (juice, breadsticks, jam, sweets etc.). The bathroom was small but the luxurious shower was fabulous - reckon it was about the same size as the rest as the bathroom!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered to help out with booking museums, dinner, theatre etc. They also helped us find a grocery store near by and gave us a free map of Florence.

The one thing I would warn people considering booking this hotel is to be careful if you want air conditioning. The website we used said all the hotel rooms were air conditioned but when we got to the hotel we realised there was a small print clause in the booking saying our particular room didn't have air con. To be fair we should have read the contract more carefully, and the hotel did provide a huge fan which kept us cool enough to sleep, but it was annoying that the website wasn't clear. Just something to watch out for.

Final point - I mentioned the restaurants and shops on the ground floor, there wasn't all that much noise from the street, even with the windows open, and with the windows closed there was no noise whatsoever.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, and would jump at the chance to go back and stay in one of the top floor suites. There is absolutely no exaggeration on the website descriptions - this hotel has an amazing location and those top floor suites would definitely have breathtaking views of the Duomo and the Piazza Signoria! : )
