Owner description: Acclaimed since 1996 for our great guides and tours, we offer the original, small-group Best of Tuscany tour, as well as wonderful guided tours of Florence, Venice, Rome and the Cinque Terre. Our tours are high-quality, entertaining, informative and fun! We love sharing Italy on a more personal level and with our small group sizes, we refuse to make you feel like a tourist. Our highly-qualified guides are passionate, have a sense of humour and enjoy bringing history to life. They include historians, aristocrats, wine makers, art sleuths, well-known journalists, guide writers, as well as talented artists and authors. What’s more, we are an ASTA approved, fully-licensed tour operator. We promise we are anything but ordinary, and we guarantee we are the Original & Best.

We took several tours offered by this company. The bike tour of the Chianti wine region was amazing. However, start training now. The hills were massive, and biking through Florence traffic can be scary. We were forewarned to train for the hills, which made this tour the highlight of our vacation. Alessandro was our guide, and he was extremely knowledgable about the history of Florence and wine tasting. We loved the lunch provided and the wine was excellent. NOTE: Purchase a few bottles at the winery, because you can't find them on any web-site. We also did the walking tour of Florence, and the Uffitizi & Academia (David) tour. Recommendation: Take these tours, because there's NO WAITING IN LINES with a guided tour. Others waited up to one hour (with reservations) to get into these museums. Excellent tours! Worth the money.

My husband and I booked a Florence walking tour while on our June 2013 vacation. We were not sure whether to book this or not, given that we would be walking around on our own and could see all of the same sights without a guide. We are SO happy that we chose to do this. It is well worth it. Our guide was Angelo and highly recommended. He was extremely knowledgeable and funny, a professionally trained archaeologist, and made the time fly by. Although we did see all of these sights the day before walking around on our own, Angelo really made everything come to life. The things we learned about the city and the buildings we would never have known otherwise, especially side stories that you don't get in guidebooks. It really made us fall more in love with the city. The group was a good small size, not overwhelming or difficult to follow and easy to hear Angelo. For the money it is a great value considering the history and information you get, the short time spent, and overall enjoyableness of the tour.

Wife, daughter and I did a small group tour with two other couples, tour guide Nadia and a driver, in a van. Nadia was excellent, knowledgable, not boring and didn't talk too much. We wanted to see Tuscany - and went to three towns - Siena, San Gimignano and Monteriggione. Nadia gave us some guidance and turned us loose with free time in all three. Highlight for me was lunch and a wine tasting at working vineyard. Good food, good wine, good host and good explanation of what we ate and drank and how to do it properly. Its a risk to go with a small group, one whiner in a van could be intolerable but the other two couples were good people. It wasn't cheap, but much better than a busload of tourists. Highly recommend this company. Good attitude. Good for family, young, old, friends or whatever. Not sure why TripAdvisor wants me to select one category.

We visited Italy in late May to June 2013 and used the services of Art Viva in Rome, Sorrento, Florence and Venice. We loved everything about their tours: From the staff that books tours ( a fantastic lady with a British accent booked ours... sorry I cannot recall her name... she was very pleasant and informative and absolutely did her best to make sure our tour(s) were well executed.) Their guides are very well informed and personable, and the sight tours were amazing. The tours were non rushed and very cozy with a relatively smaller group compared to others which is such a positive as we get a personal attention while touring sites with the guides. Great experience.
Thank you to everybody at Art Viva that made our Italy trip a memorable one!!
And of course, Italy, we love you!!

Warm regards,
Sai P

We did the Florence in One Glorious Day walking tour, which included the Florence Original Walking tour, the Masterpieces of the Uffizi Gallery, and the Original David Tour. The tour guides gave us a headset to listen to and they wore a microphone, and this worked out really nicely as you could walk a few feet away and still hear them. For the first tour, we had Laura, and she was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions the group had. I was afraid it might be boring, but I actually thought it was very interesting and I only wish I knew more Renaissance history. After an hour break during which we had lunch, we met back up at the Artviva office and had our tour of the Uffizi Gallery. I don't remember our next tour guide's name but she was a woman originally from Belgium and she was also a very good guide. We did have a short wait to get into Uffizi but it was not bad at all. Our guide did a great job of showing us the highlights in the gallery. It was a very hot day, and one thing I did not like was that the Uffizi does allow you to bring in bottled water. This is not Artviva's fault, but I was not able to enjoy the tour as much as I could have because I was feeling faint from being so hot and dehydrated. Our last tour was to see Michelangelo's David. Again, we had an hour in between the second and third tours, which wasn't really enough time to do anything so we just waited at the office. We had the same tour guide again for the third tour. We had to wait a little bit longer than we did for Uffizi, but again, it was not terribly long. David was really amazing to see in person, and it was nice to have a tour guide to tell us about some of the theories about the choices Michelangelo made and the history before and after David was created.
