“a nice quiet spot in florence”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

I had the entrance included on mg firenze card so i thought i would check it out after visiting the galleria accadamia. They are not the biggest gardens and it doesnt take long to walk around, but its a lovely quiet place away from the hustle and bustle in the main city centre. It would have been nice to have taken a book or a picnic and spent an hour or so for lunch here but unfortunately i didnt have that foresight.

“Skip it”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

These "gardens" are in terrible shape. It is ridiculous that they charge €3 entry fee. I felt like asking for a refund. Everything is rundown and broken. The view from outside looking in is much better than being inside the gardens!

We were hoping to enjoy a nice walk round this park but it is currently closed for emergency renovations. No date given when it will reopen

“Haven on a Hot Day”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We found this place by chance after leaving the church of San Marco when it closed around midday. It was a hot day and the garden, just around the corner, offered peace, quiet and shade. Originally established by the Medici to grow medicinal plants, it is now a general botanical garden, administered by the University of Florence, and a couple of the wonderful trees are between 200 and 300 years old. There are interesting herbs, fruit trees and palms as well as a shady pond. It was a much-needed change from the crowded tourist hot-spots and we thought it was a very happy accidental find! Although we couldn't find lunch there, it was only a short walk back to the Piazza di San Marco when hunger overtook us.
