“Lovely hotel, super friendly staff, amazing location :) just don't book this one via Expedia!”
Reviewed April 21, 2010

We travelled to Florence on a budget on the hoof for a weeks break from the UK to check out the city as we'd never been before.
We'd booked the hotel after an internet search and trip advisor comparison and booked our flights with Ryan Air for £30 return! At the airport we bought return bus tickets to the main train station in Florence (I think for (€10) and walked to the La Casa del Garbo from there... and it is a beautiful and cobbly walk :)
When we arrived at the hotel we were given a warm welcome and shown to our room, and were a little disappointed as we'd walked past some amazing rooms en route. We asked if we could upgrade and showed the lady our booking form and she was surprised at the price we ha paid on Expedia. In short she explained that when rooms are booked via Expedia they are allocated the room we were shown, the hotelier will get a cut of that price but the customer pays the same price of that if we had booked directly with the hotel.... which was an eye opener & since then, we now always enquire to unless even if are booking a last minute bargain package holiday! She offered the nicer rooms to us at no extra cost but as we would only be able to stay there for a couple of days before new occupants arrived we kindly declined and accepted the room allocated to us. The only issue we had with the room was that it was quite a small room and very dark as the windows are directly opposite a tall dark brick building so we had to use artificial lighting all the time & could not open windows, still the room was lovely, very clean, en suite and the whole hotel is gorgeously decorated.
Breakfast was served in the dining room next to our hotel room (so you can see it if you visit) and is a continental breakfast and delicious. If you want extra drinks or food in the daytime there is an honesty box in the kitchen area and you can help yourself to some extras. The staff there were always so friendly & helpful with recommendations, places to go/avoid & non tourist eateries, it's in a fantastic location....... Florence was a great place to visit with soooo much to do with so many streets to get gloriously lost in :)...... I'd love to return & I'd definitely stay at La Casa Del garbo again.

This is a unique spot. It's not a traditional hotel, but rather a charming little B&B, where you're given the keys to the front door, a warm welcome, a simple but tasty breakfast and otherwise left to your own devices. The place has free internet and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Without even asking, we were upgraded from an internal room to a spacious room with a sitting area and a fantastic view of the square. It's well located and within walking distance to everything you'd want to see in Florence. We would definitely return and highly recommend La Casa del Garbo to anyone seeking a quaint alternative to the typical hotel experience.

Lovely place , couldnt really believe it was actually IN the square. had great two nights , only marred by the police not helping with the car when we got lost and ended up where we shouldnt have been!, but the garage came and collected the car and dropped off again after our lovely stay, both restaurants they recommended were excellent.Very happy wand will be back as soon as we can. Excellent value for money.

My wife and I stayed here 4 nights in March with our two grown daughters (one of whom lives in Italy). Location (and view) was superb and the room was beautiful, plus having breakfast served in out room each morning was delightful (if a bit pricey). Only negative was noise from the piazza, especially in the early morning when it was being cleaned, which was quite loud and woke us up despite having the interior wooden shutters drawn. Also we could never seem to get them to replace the toilet paper... but all in all a wonderful choice.

For a quiet independent stay in magnificent Florence, this establishment is quite remarkable. You could not be more central to the old town, and the accomodation suits the atmosphere so well.
We unhesitatingly recommend this excellent accomodation to those who enjoy unfussy, but extremely comfortable city breaks.

THIS IS IN THE CENTER OF IT ALL! Our view outside our window was the Palazzo Vecchio! You can't get more central than this. And for the price? What a real incredible value. Clean, comfortable, and incredibly quiet rooms with an American-style shower (rare to have such a great shower in Europe). Breakfast included. English-speaking. The bed was a little too hard for our comfort, but otherwise we had a fantastic experience. I would highly, highly recommend this B&B. We stayed in Gemma and Eleanora (traveled with another couple). If you are traveling by car, be sure to arrange with the reception how to get to the hotel and where to leave your car (they have an affiliated garage), as it is a pedestrian area but you can drive up to it to drop off luggage.

Each year we take a Feb city european break and this one topped them all. It was so easy and relaxing to move around the city due to the non-traffic zone. The lack of traffic meant it was also quiet in the centre. We stayed in the Michel Angelo Appt, superb accommodation with a neat well equipped kitchen corner. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable and the main room is spacious and light with a great view onto Piazza della Signoria. Considering we were in the main piazza there was no noise intrusion except when the windows were open and when the lady next door played her tv too loud. The office dealt with this when mentioned. All dealings with the staff were courteous, efficient and helpful.
