We travelled to Florence on a budget on the hoof for a weeks break from the UK to check out the city as we'd never been before.
We'd booked the hotel after an internet search and trip advisor comparison and booked our flights with Ryan Air for £30 return! At the airport we bought return bus tickets to the main train station in Florence (I think for (€10) and walked to the La Casa del Garbo from there... and it is a beautiful and cobbly walk :)
When we arrived at the hotel we were given a warm welcome and shown to our room, and were a little disappointed as we'd walked past some amazing rooms en route. We asked if we could upgrade and showed the lady our booking form and she was surprised at the price we ha paid on Expedia. In short she explained that when rooms are booked via Expedia they are allocated the room we were shown, the hotelier will get a cut of that price but the customer pays the same price of that if we had booked directly with the hotel.... which was an eye opener & since then, we now always enquire to unless even if are booking a last minute bargain package holiday! She offered the nicer rooms to us at no extra cost but as we would only be able to stay there for a couple of days before new occupants arrived we kindly declined and accepted the room allocated to us. The only issue we had with the room was that it was quite a small room and very dark as the windows are directly opposite a tall dark brick building so we had to use artificial lighting all the time & could not open windows, still the room was lovely, very clean, en suite and the whole hotel is gorgeously decorated.
Breakfast was served in the dining room next to our hotel room (so you can see it if you visit) and is a continental breakfast and delicious. If you want extra drinks or food in the daytime there is an honesty box in the kitchen area and you can help yourself to some extras. The staff there were always so friendly & helpful with recommendations, places to go/avoid & non tourist eateries, it's in a fantastic location....... Florence was a great place to visit with soooo much to do with so many streets to get gloriously lost in :)...... I'd love to return & I'd definitely stay at La Casa Del garbo again.
