La Casa del Garbo was my home away from home during my 10 weeks in Italy, and if I could give it 6 stars I would. From the great location to the friendly and very professional staff, it far exceeded any expectations I had. In between trips to Roma (7 nights), Capri/Positano/Ravello (10 nights), Venezia (4 nights), the Cinque Terre (2 nights) and 6 days traveling throughout the Tuscan countryside, (in addition to several day trips from the city), it was always comforting to know that there was a friendly face to greet me upon my return.
I stayed in the Eleonora room during my stay and never tired of the sights and sounds of the Piazza del Signoria or the fact that La Casa del Garbo was only steps away from all the history that is Florence. A perfect combination.

We loved La Casa del Garbo for its beautifully restored architecture (used to be a monastery),
fantastic location right in the Piazza della Signoria, the friendly staff who made us feel right at home, the breakfast that was truly amazing, and on and on. Our room was gorgeous and very comfortable, our private bathroom was extremely well appointed and very roomy. There is no elevator but the staff was very helpful getting our luggage up the stairs. Breakfast was beautifully presented and excellent; the cappuccino's the best we had in Italy. Our breakfast server was the nicest gentleman who spoke English fluently and made us feel right at home. We didn't want to leave, and this was truly the nicest hotel we stayed at on our trip! My only word of caution is to make sure you notify the hotel if you are arriving late so they can make arrangements to have someone let you in after regular hours (after 5 pm on Sundays, e.g.) We had an unexpected train delay and forgot to contact the hotel; luckily we were able to wake up a staff member at 10:30 pm after ringing the doorbell several times. The location is fantastic with the Duomo very close by, gelaterias on every corner, great shops, etc. The Piazza does attract a lively crowd till late into the night, so I would recommend a room that does not face the Piazza; ours did so we had a gorgeous view of the Palazzo Vecchio but we also had the noise.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with windows facing Piazza della Signoria because of noise late through the night.

We stayed at the Casa Del Garbo in both the Leonardo apartment and the Gemma room for a total of 5 nights. Both were excellent. We particularly liked the Leonardo as it has a better view of the Piazza della Signoria and offers more space. However, the Gemma has a nicer bathroom. Breakfast for the Leonardo was served in the room and breakfast for the Gemma was in a breakfast room. The staff was very attentive, though the front desk is only available in the morning and then late afternoon.

The location is the best. At first we were concerned that there might be a lot of noise, but the rooms seemed well sound-proofed as long as the windows were closed. We had no problems with noise in the 5 nights we were there – and I am a very light sleeper.

This is not your typical hotel. No front desk. No tons of rooms. No frills at all. Its basically an group of apartments converted into a hotel. Its amazing. The staff was all they needed to be. The rooms were spacious and bathrooms fairly modern and updated. Breakfast is adequate and good. The location is great. Short walk to all the sites and train station.

We stayed for two nights of our honeymoon. The staff helped us plan our itinerary and recommended restaurants. They are right on the Piazza della Signoria. Our room did not have a kitchen but the the dining room was just outside our door. Breakfast was good and you put your order in the night before. Rooms were somewhat oddly shaped but that was due mostly to the age (medieval?) of the building. Everything was clean and worked well. There is no elevator and the stairs are narrow.

Beware of the Gelato store kitty corner across the square from the Garbo. They overcharged us 10 Euros after they gave us our Gelato even though we protested. Many tourists were getting mad at them and the locals we paying the normal price.

Room Tip: Rooms are large and very high ceilings. Interior rooms have no view.

La Casa del Garbo was suggested by a friend, and I am very glad I did book it. From the time that I made an inquiry till the time that we left the staff were very professional and helpful. We stayed for 4 nights and it was very good. It is true there are no elevators in the Hotel but this place is a very old building and I did like the old stairs, it fits in with the very historic city of Florence! The rooms as spacious and we stayed in two different suites and each had its own kitchen, although we never used it ourselves. Being right on the Piazza della Signoria, you could not be more central. Breakfast is very good and punctual.

Room Tip: Do be aware that like in any city, central might also mean more noise late at night if you sleep lig...
