“Great location massive rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

We wanted to have something central and with some room to move after leaving Venice, so we booked 2 apartments. When we arrived we realized we could have been put into the one apartment because they were really large apartments.
Clean, comfortable and above all wireless that works and central to all facilities.
Don't get trapped and walk out your door and go to the first couple of restaurants on your right because they are expensive and are not very good......
It would have been good if they had a washing machine and dryer in the rooms then I would have been very happy but the laundromat is only 500m away and cheap. All in all very good place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the ones facing the piazza as this give you the most amazing view.

You couldn't get a better location for a B & B in Florence! Comfortable rooms, friendly and efficient service, a delicious and very filling breakfast served either in your room or in the breakfast room and all at a very reasonable price. The next time we come to Florence I won't be spending hours on the internet checking and comparing accomodation (I spend a lot of time doing that).

We stayed in the Benvenuto suite for 2 nights in Florence. The best part about La Casa del Garbo is the location. It is right on Piazza della Signoria with all the major sights within walking distance. The location deserves a rating of 5.
The interior is well designed & decorated. The suite was quite spacious with a well equipped kitchen & a large bathroom.

Now the drawbacks:
1. The hot water runs out very fast! There is barely 10-15 minutes worth of hot water in the shower. With 3 adults sharing the bathroom, only the 1st one managed to have a decent bath. After that the water was just about lukewarm, almost cold. You had to wait well over an hour to get 10 more minutes of hot water.
2. The double room in the suite does not face the piazza, yet it was extremely noisy. The window opens into an open column in the centre of the building and I believe there is a restaurant on the lower floor, so there is heavy clanging of vessels & people talking loudly late into the night & early morning.
There was also the chiming of church bells (which we quite liked), but if you are a light sleeper then be aware that it starts very early in the morning.
3. The Benvenuto suite is up a long flight of stairs on the 4th floor. This was fine for us since we didn't have a problem climbing, but it is a factor to consider if you have knee problems.
4. The tax here is much higher than other places we stayed in Italy since it is in the historic center (Eur 4 per person per night compared to 1 or 2 euro elsewhere).

Overall I would recommend it solely for the location, but the hot water was a big problem.

Wow, what a wonderful location directly on the Piazza della signoria. We stayed in the apartments/suites and they were wonderful. They were very large, with a fully appointed kitchen. Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning. The staff was very helpful and went above and beyond to help with anything we needed. The beds area a bit hard, but the room and location more than made up for this. I would love to come back when I can enjoy this room and location for a much longer visit!

We were amazed at what a great location we had! We were literally across the Piazza form the Uffizi and in the center of all the action. The walls are a little thin but when you close the windows it is utterly quiet. Marcello was a great help with making us reservations for the museums and suggesting where to go for dinner. I'd definitely stay here again. Not for children. Romantic couple**** traveling couple****

This B&B has much to recommend it, but there are a number of little drawbacks which may or may not matter to the individual traveller.
Positives: The rooms are comfortably furnished and the water pressure in the shower was fine. The location can’t be beat; most of the main attractions are a short walk away. The train station is only a 15-minute walk; ditto for the rental car agencies should you decide to rent a car for a side trip to, say, Pisa. The “suite” (room Lorenzo) was nice and spacious. Our room faced the Piazza di Signoria, and watching the comings and goings of that bustling square from the window was itself something of an attraction. The windows are provided with solid wood shutters which can be closed to really shut out the morning light. The windows are quite soundproofed, which substantially muffles the din from the piazza. And in the night, the room was absolutely quiet (but see below). The staff is friendly and helpful.
A number of little things keep this B&B from earning 5 stars, however. If any of these matter to the individual traveler, be advised accordingly.
1) The bed was fairly hard, so if you are used to a more luxurious sink-into-the bed feeling, you may be unhappy with it.
2) The in-room safe was very small, so don’t plan to store your laptop in it.
3) Breakfast European style is brought to your room and consists of one cup of coffee, rolls, croissants, and fruit. If you want something more, there is a well-stocked grocery store close by, and if you book one of this hotel’s “suites” you will be able to cook or microwave your own food. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking, including a coffee-maker.
4) The office is only staffed 6 hours per day. If you have any need to contact them at other times, you are out of luck. I tried the cellphone number that they gave, but it was not answered, nor were my voice mails ever returned.
5) Although the windows are commendably sound-proofed, a certain amount of noise from the outdoor restaurant directly below in the piazza can be heard if the diners speak loudly. This diminishes by midnight or before and then the room is incredibly quiet.
6) If you dread walking up and down stairs, ask for a lower floor. The staff will help you with your luggage.
7) There is a stall shower but no tub.

Room Tip: If you are noise-averse, ask for a room not facing the piazza
