Quiet place in 30-35 min on foot from the Santa-Maria Novella. I have booked a room for 6 days, but due to changes in the plane's timetable I have to cancel 1 day. I has informed the owner before arriving. Nevertheless I was charged to pay for full 6 days and I was rejected from the room in the morning of the 5-th day.The owner magically forgot all english words and arithmetic when we discussed about payments details.
No reception in the building, you should phone to the owner and wait for him. No bills,no cash register, credit cards are not accepted, only cash. Breakfasts were served in the different cafes and include only one cup of coffee and a pastry or small sandwich. We would NOT RECOMMEND this place to our friends.

We spent four days in Florence in June a couple of years ago, and had a really nice stay at the Recidenza Cantagalli. It is located by the great Boboli garden, and a short walk (ca 15 min) from the famous bridge of Ponte Veccio. The service was great and our room had a big bed, a small balcony, and several colorful paintings made by the owner. A great place for us!

To make it short: the stay was absolutely terrible. The place is run by a family (father and son). We contacted the place over e-mail and made a reservation for 5 nights. The whole place is just a few flats in an ordinary house. When we arrived there was no one and we had to call to the personnel to come to the hotel to let us in. They hardly speak any English, so polish your Italian skills. When they arrived after half an hour they made it clear that we had not made a reservation (even though we had all the print-outs to prove it). They simply did not care. The son just completely messed up all the bookings and made double booking. They simply refused us in a very rude way to the hotel. We managed to negotiate one night stay so we could find an alternative place to stay (which is almost impossible during the "hot" season). What they call "breakfast" is simply a few crackers with tiny jam jars bought from a supermarket nearby. They wind up the price because they serve "breakfast", but staying in a hotel without a breakfast and buying the same stuff will end up much cheaper. The conclusion is: avoid this place if you want to be treated with respect and dignity, and want to be actually sure that you won't be driven away by incompetent staff.

Although we very much regret that your stay at the B&B Residenza Cantagalli was not to your liking, we find your comment unfair and more than anything unrealistic.
Your description of the structure is far from reality; the photo refers to the structure under the previous management and for years now breakfast has been served in the excellent pastry shop below the building.
If the “misunderstanding” with this client was due to overbooking, we apologise even though it can happen (very rarely!); however, when it does occur we have always taken great care at finding alternative accommodation of the same level in the neighbourhood and make sure we accompany the client.
We find the accusations with regard to the personnel totally unacceptable: our staff has always been extremely polite and helpful towards our clients and this is testified by all the positive and appreciative comments we receive from many clients.
Even if our English isn’t of the highest level, we hope we have been able to make ourselves understood.
