We really loved La Contessina. The staff were so friendly and helpful at all times. The breakfasts were really varied - the cakes and pastries were lovely and there was always plenty of fruit - melon, peaches, bananas, apples etc. It was great having a fridge in the room for the odd bottle of wine and beer! We found the beds comfortable as we prefer a firm mattress. We slept well although we were disturbed on a couple of nights by noisy guests coming in very late. The sofa was very large and comfy and enabled us to relax after a busy day of sightseeing. We walked to the apartment from the railway station and found La Contessina easily. We loved the nearby restaurant Enzo e Piero - lovely Tuscan food and friendly service at very reasonable prices. We would certainly go back to La Contessina

Room Tip: Corner rooms away from the patio are probably quieter

Perfectly central location for a week of exploring Old Town Florence. We walked to all the important sites, mostly only a 10 minutes amble away. A 5 minute walk from railway station. Lovely, clean, quiet residence, great facilities, marvellously helpful and welcoming staff. Breakfast OK, lacks fruit and meusli only. Lovely spread of baked delights. R & K Canberra.

Residence La Contessina is situated a 10 minutes walk from the railway station, however with a very anonymous entrance. The road Via Faenza 71, has two different number systems, so to find no 71 you have to look at the signs with black figures. To go by car it’s “impossible” without a GPS and also difficult with a GPS.

The hotel offers a parking lot for 30 € but as it is so small and narrow, you have to leave the key to the hotel staff who will reorganize the cars if some guest will leave the hotel. When we saw the chaotic situation and told the staff that we will look for another parking, they told us that it’s “very difficult” to find and also offered “a special price for us” (20 €). But it’s not difficult to find parking places as there are modern and safe parking garages not far from the hotel as the railway station, the fortress etc for 1,60 € per hour (all prices here are in August, 2012).

The hotel offers full equipped apartments, however they charge 25 € to use the kitchen! They are modern, clean and nice but in the bathroom there were only two small soaps and four small paper bags shampoo. And this for three persons who would like to shower two times a day! As breakfast you find some bread, cheese and ham but mostly sweet cakes which not every guest likes to start the day with.

The Internet costs 7 € for 24h use and is very fast. We checked the speed and it was more than 4 Mbit/sec but unfortunately, in the morning the Internet didn’t work. One big problem in the room is the electric outlet. It is old Italian standard and it can for example be impossible to connect a battery charger. We could really not understand why the hotel doesn’t change at least one outlet to the new standard just for connect chargers, computers etc.

10-15 minutes walk from the hotel you come to the most important tourist spots in the town. The hotel can be a good choice but if you come with a car, prepare yourself for finding some other place to park the car. To leave the key to a new car to the staff and something happens with it… No thank you!

Nice, spacious accommodation at a good price - the extra room was very welcome with 2 kids in the room and although we didn't use the kitchen, there is a good sized refrigerator that came in very handy for storing snacks and keeping water (and wine!) cold. The beds are a bit hard, but this seems to be the case throughout Italy and there was plenty to eat at breakfast. The hotel is centrally located but on a quiet street and we were able to walk everywhere. Would definitely stay here again the next time we're in Florence.

These apartments are in a central location, only 5 minutes walk from the railway station. Five of us stayed here and it worked beautifully for all of us. Very helpful staff, very clean and no noise as it is like a little oasis off the street. Great value for money. Chris& Angela, Hobart, Australia.
